Current Poundland Deals

We've seen a load of make-up and cosmetic bargains for £1 at Poundland, huge discounts on the normal price.

The items are probably discontinued stock. Similar end-of-lines are currently being sold in the likes of Boots and Marisota, but at higher prices. Don't expect an individual Poundland to sell all the items below - in our local we only found a couple - but it's worth a check.

What we found for £1 at Poundland
  • Stila foundation Angel Light (RRP £26)
  • Stila Angel Light foundation sponge (RRP £14)
  • Twilight Eclipse natural eyes set (RRP £10)
  • Twilight Beauty mini cosmetics set (RRP £6)
  • Poundland hasn't told us what its stocks are like, so it may be a hunt rather than a guaranteed success.

    Can cosmetics go off?

The products above should be OK to use, but check first.

None of those we sampled had a specified end date. They either have no restriction or state they must be used within a certain period after opening.

The British Skin Foundation says: "Cosmetic products will remain safe to use provided they are stored under suitable conditions and not subjected to extreme temperatures."

"To ensure the maximum durability of cosmetic products, they should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and with the lids firmly closed."

£1 disposable BBQsIn-store at Poundland, 99p Stores and Poundworld

Ongoing
Disposable BBQs are available for £1 at Poundland, 99p Stores or Poundworld. The next cheapest we've found is £2 from Asda and many retailers sell them for around £5, or £10 in petrol stations so it's worth making the trip if you have one of these stores nearby.

Here's some product detail on the BBQs stocked at Poundland:

  • Size L31cm x W24cm x D5cm
  • Quantity of charcoal: 600g
  • Approx burning time: 100 - 140 mins
  • Start cooking 15 mins after lighting.

These come with real lumpwood charcoal and firelighters.

MSE Charlotte says:

I like to stock up on a few of these £1 BBQs for spontaneous days out. You never know when the sun decides to come out, and a last minute one in a petrol station can cost up to £10!

£1 mega dealsIncl £10 watch, L'Oreal moisturiser and Aussie shampoo

In-store
£1 mega bargains

Don’t fall for the pound shop hype. Some things sold in there cost less than £1 elsewhere, some more. The key is to find the things you’d pay much more for elsewhere. This week we’ve found a whole range – so here goes...

Stonking deals at Poundworld include...

  • Breo watches. Usually around £10, so that's a massive 90% saving. In our local store, we found them in grey and blue and in sizes L and M.
  • Toni & Guy shampoo & conditioner (75ml) £1 each. We couldn't find the same travel-size products in major stores but found them for £2 online.
  • Horrible Histories books. Titles available: 20th Century, Rowdy Revolutions, Cruel Kings and Mean Queens, Rotten Rulers, Wicked Words and Dark Knights and Dingy Castles. The titles are around £5 online.
  • TomTom carry case and strap. We've seen similar online for around £10 at Play.com

And at Poundland...

  • L'Oreal Nutri Bronze 12 hour moisturising fluid (50ml, gradual self tan). We've found similar on Amazon for £4.20. The tanner doesn't come from the UK (you'll see a sticker on it translating it into English) though this doesn't means it not legit.
  • Aussie Miracle Moist Hair shampoo & conditioner (75ml) £1 each. The cheapest we could find elsewhere were £2 each at Superdrug. They're 75ml, perfect for hand luggage.
  • Andrew Collinge hydra therapy conditioner. We read in a Marie Claire article online this was originally £4.99. We can't find the same conditioner anywhere now, so it must be discontinued.
  • Danny Wallace's More Awkward Situations for Men. The next cheapest we found was £8.27 at Amazon.
  • Horrid Henry books. There are 20 titles available. Ones we picked up were Horrid Henry Gets Rich Quick and Horrid Henry and the Mummy's Curse. The books are around £4
MSE Charlotte says:

We are not able to tell how old the L'Oreal moisturiser is. We asked the British Skin Foundation about expiry dates on skincare. It said:

"Cosmetic products will remain safe to use provided they are stored under suitable conditions and not subjected to extreme temperatures."

"To ensure the maximum durability of cosmetic products, they should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and with the lids firmly closed."

It also said the use by date on cosmetics, is from when you open the product. So if it says 18 months on the box, it should last for 18 months from when you open it, provided it's been stored correctly.

£1 HDMI cables at PoundlandThey're just as effective as £20+ ones

Ongoing
Go to your nearest Poundland store and hunt for the £1 cables. Poundland says they are available all year round in all of its 400 stores. The Poundland HDMI cable is 1m long and can be used to connect your PC to your TV, so you can watch online content on your big screen.

MSE Becca says:

There's no point spending £20+ on a HDMI cable when tests have shown there's no difference in picture between the most expensive cables and the cheapest - techy website Cnet and The Gadget Show agree.

For more info on how to connect your PC to your TV, read the Online Movie Streaming guide.

Free protection for all shopping!Section 75

There's a secret phrase that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. "Section 75" laws means your plastic must protect anything you buy over £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust you can still get your money back.

Although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards there is something else to fall back on if you paid on a Visa debit or electron card, or Visa credit card under £100 (otherwise go for Section 75). Known as Visa Chargeback, this is part of Visa's internal rules and not a legal requirement. Full details of Section 75, chargeback and how to claim in the Section 75 Refunds guide.
