Breakdown Discounts

Read the email this appeared in

Breakdown cover is costly and the two giants of the industry love to take a huge chunk of the pie. Yet as they’re fighting for business, if you’re in the know its possible to get roadside recovery at a fraction of the cost.

There are a raft of tricks listed below you can use to cut the cost which can get AA cover from as little as £7 and the RAC for just £8.

Yet don’t think you have to stick with the big boys, even with their deals. You can get full service policies from as little as £37, with similar call out times. For more on that read the full Cheap Roadside Recovery guide.

Cheap Breakdown Discounts
Supercheap AA and RAC policies
Cheap AA membership
AA vehicle only cover for £7 after cashback

Rather than signing up to the AA direct, do it via a special 'cashback' website and you can save big. Currently £21 cashback's available, making a basic policy just £7. Cashback sites are websites that list retailers/product providers and get paid if you click through them. Importantly, they then give some or all of this cash to you.

If you're new to this concept, please read the Best Cashback Sites guide before continuing, as while there shouldn't be a problem with these deals, the payout on cashback sites is never guaranteed; if there's a dispute with the retailer and the cashback site doesn't get paid, you don't either.

Quidco: Pays £21, but takes the first £5 earned each year. Link: Quidco*

Wepromiseto: Not currently offering cashback

Cheap RAC membership
There are two methods to choose from, and which is best depends on where you shop.
Method 1: 1/4 price via Tesco Clubcard deals

Tesco shoppers can swap their points for Clubcard Deals vouchers, worth four times the vouchers' normal in-store value. One of the deals available is RAC cover; the basic cover costs £15 worth of points, but there are a whole other range of deals too.

If you've got Clubcard deals saved up, this is a great system. For more, read the Cheap Breakdown Cover guide.

Method 2: RAC cover £8 after cashback

As with the AA, sign up via a special 'cashback' website and you can currently get £20 cashback making a basic policy just £8.
