It's possible to get special hidden deals offering substantially cheaper digital TV packages. These usually, though not always, beat what you can get direct. This is a regularly updated list of deals and offers for Sky, Virgin & Tiscali packages.
For a full step system on cutting the cost of your TV bundle read the Digital TV Cost Cutting guide.
Virgin bundle £18/mth via cashback deal
Sign up to Virgin via comparison site Simplify Digital* before 26 Jan and you can get either £130 or £165 automated cashback depending on which package you plump for.
Factoring in the cashback and Virgin's own two month free TV & broadband offer, the cheapest £29/month package works out at £18.08/month over the 12 month contract. This includes the one-off £35 installation fee and £11/month line rental. If you want a V+ box (which lets you record, pause and rewind) you'll need to dish out an extra £75.
If you want more, you can get the £39.95/month family package for £28.45/month over the course of the first 12 months.
The offer is available on all bundles but £130 cashback is on the entry level bundles or £165 on the higher ones.
Virgin cable's available to around 65% of the population, you can check first using its postcode checker (but then make sure you sgin up via Simplify Digital to get the cashback).
What do you get?
On the most basic package you get:
- Virgin standard digital TV box
- M+ TV pack (70 digital TV channels, see list)
- Up to 10Mbps unlimited download home broadband and wireless router
- Phone M package with inclusive weekend calls to 01,02 and 03 numbers (call costs PDF)
- Line rental
On the family package

- M+ TV pack (70 digital TV channels, see list)
- Up to 20Mbps unlimited download home broadband and wireless router
- Phone M package with inclusive weekend calls to 01,02 and 03 numbers (call costs PDF)

Use override providers
Virgin's standard call costs are even higher than Tiscali's. Weekday usage is 6.3p/min, with a very high 9.8p connection charge for each call! What's more, it charges 9.79p/min to call 0870 and 0845 numbers.
However, you are able to use special 'override' providers to slash the cost. Here you dial a short code before making your call, and then pay a different, lower price.
For full details on how to use override providers, read the Home Phones guide.
Sky £39/mth super-fast broadband & £50 M&S
Currently Sky* is offering six months free on its super-fast 20MB broadband package (£10 after) plus you get £50 M&S vouchers when you sign up. Over the 12 month contract it works out at £39/month plus the £50 M&S vouchers for 20MB broadband, line rental, weekend calls and the basic TV package.
Not everyone will be able to get up to speeds of 20Mbps, it depends on how near you are to the exchange. To check use a site like Thinkbroadband which will test the speed capability of your line.
Further fiddly savings of £50 are possible if you go via a cashback, see below for details.

Grabbing the cashback
To grab the £50 on top, you'll first need to sign up to a cashback site; websites that list retailers/product providers and get paid if you click through them. They then give some or all of this cash to you.
If it's your first time using one, be sure to read the full Cashback Sites guide before proceeding. This type of cashback ISN'T 100% guaranteed.
Click through to the Sky site via the cashback site to sign up; Topcashback is totally free to use, whereas Quidco takes the first £5 you earn as its membership fee. If you've been on the Sky site before (ie checking availability) clear your browser's cookies before doing this.
