£50 worth groceries for £18 at Tesco
Using Price Drop codes

Discount: Big savings on groceries using Tesco codes Who for: Anyone
Get by: Sun 27 May 2012 Use by: Sun 27 May 2012
How: Ready for a bit of extreme online couponing? It's all about combining a range of Tesco codes (Tesco has told us this is allowed).  This is fiddly, but worth it as the savings can be huge, especially for new customers to Tesco.

How much can you save?

One MoneySaver has reported getting £50 of groceries for £18. We tried it here at MSE Towers and on our basket we got £59.19 down to £26.99 (including delivery, which starts at £3) – the saving depends on what you normally buy.

Ordered least fiddly first, so go as far as you’re prepared to.

To use all codes, you just put them in the promotional code box on the Tesco* website at the last stage once you’ve ordered your goods. You should then see a big reduction in your total.

1.  £10 off £50 for new Tesco customers.

Those who’ve not registered with Tesco.com before can get £10 off with the code XXAFFT by Sat 30 Jun 2012.

2. Lots of Price Drop codes – anyone can use them

Update Wed 16 May 2012, 12 noon: We did list all the codes here, but Tesco just informed us we aren't allowed to reproduce them (after originally saying we could). One forumite has listed them, which you can read here:

Click here to see Tesco codes

Price Drop offer codes are valid until Fri 25 May 2012. You must have your groceries DELIVERED by this date.

Huge thanks to forumite tony98 for these.

3. Use BOGOFs and multi-buys.

To maximise savings, use these codes with multi-buy offers or BOGOFs. The minimum spend listed for each code  is before any multi-buy discount.

For example, two Tesco mini snowball cakes, usually £1.50 each, reduced to 2 for £2. While the price you pay is £2 the code will work as the original price was £3.

4. Register via a cashback website.

To boost savings even further, shop via Quidco* and you can get £5 cashback. Cashback is never 100% guaranteed though, so don’t count on it. If you’re new to cashback sites, read the Top Cashback Sites  guide.

5. Extra tips to help you max savings:

* To find special offers that will work with this each of the price drop codes, go to the ‘special offers’ tab and search by offers for department.

* If you don't want to shop online, you can pick up a copy of Tesco Price News, which contains all these offers, from bigger Tesco stores and use them in-store at your nearest Tesco, though this means you won't get £10 off £50 or £5 cashback.

* See the forum discussion, started by canny forumite Karlie88, for how forumites are using the deal.

The detail: £10 off £50 code for new customers only until Sun 27 May 2012. Price Drop offer codes are valid until Fri 25 May 2012 (some are later than this, but they vary) and you must have your groceries DELIVERED by Sun 27 May.

Section 75Free protection for all shopping!

There's a secret phrase that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. "Section 75" laws means your plastic must protect anything you buy over £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust you can still get your money back.

Although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards there is something else to fall back on if you paid on a Visa debit or electron card, or Visa credit card under £100 (otherwise go for Section 75). Known as Visa Chargeback, this is part of Visa's internal rules and not a legal requirement. Full details of Section 75, chargeback and how to claim in the Section 75 Refunds guide.

If you know of a great deal we've missed, or you have feedback on those above, then please post it in the discussion and we'll add it to the list.
