After the huge price rise in April 2012, stamp prices push the envelope. With discounts rare, we all get a little couriered away when cheap stamps are on offer.
Previously, Superdrug and Royal Mail have both offered discounts, particularly at Christmas time. We'll keep you posted of the best deals so you stock up and beat the hike.
In April 2012,
Stamp prices rose to record highs.
1st class stamps are now 60p (previously 46p), and 2nd class 50p (previously 36p)
The increases followed a decision by regulator Ofcom to give Royal Mail the freedom to set its own rates. See full Stamp prices to soar news story.
Yet provided they say ‘1st’ or ‘2nd’ rather than a price, they're effectively inflation-proofed, as they're still valid after prices go up. So bulk-buy when the time is right and you’re quids in.
Bulk buy at Costco
If it's other sized or class stamps you need then other stores sell them at discounted prices. If you're already a member of a discount wholesaler such as Costco it's worth checking there.
Free postage for the blind
If either the sender or recipient is blind then it's possible to send items free. Read more about the 'Articles for the Blind' offer, including who's eligible, on the Royal Mail website.

If a link has a * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment to the site.
You shouldn’t notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links. We aim to look at all available products. If it isn't possible to get an affiliate link for the top deal, it is still included in exactly the same way, just with a non-paying link. For more details, read How this site is financed.
For the sake of transparency, so you can check there’s no difference, here are duplicate versions of the * links that don’t help MoneySavingExpert.com: Currently no affil links.
