Tastecard logo2,017 FREE one-year Tastecards (norm £80)*Enter ballot, if unsuccessful you still get one-month card free

Expired

If you're a foodie, sign up via this MSE Blagged special Tastecard page before 11.59pm on Sun 8 Jan and you'll be entered into a random ballot where 2,017 MSE’rs will be given a totally free one-year membership (full price £79.99, though it's often discounted). No one's a loser with this as those who don't get picked for the year's card will be given a free one-month membership instead.

You don't need to give your bank details, so after one month or one year (depending on which one you get) the card just expires, meaning there'll be no auto-renewal. We criticised Tastecard in the past for its auto-renewal practices - on a number of deals (not those it did via us) it made it difficult for people to cancel. See our 'Tastecard members stung by £40 fee after auto-renewal' news story in Feb 2016 - see 'more info' below for how it's addressed our concerns, as it claims to have got better.

But whatever you think of Tastecard, a totally free one-year or one-month membership with no auto-renewal is a no-brainer and a tasty deal we had to share.

This offer is valid whether you've had a free trial or signed up for a subscription before or not - though only one's allowed per household, so if you share a house you may need to race to get one. When applying make sure you click 'find my address' and select your full postal address.

When will I find out what I get?

The one-year Tastecard recipients will be drawn on Mon 9 Jan. You will be notified the following day via email whether you got a one-month or full year’s membership, and your Tastecard will then be sent out within 10 working days (when printed, there'll be 40 or 375 days until the expiry date to allow for the time of delivery, so you won't miss out).

You’ll be signed up to marketing emails but you can unsubscribe at any time if you no longer wish to receive them

What does Tastecard get me?

Tastecard is a discount card scheme that gives 50% off or 2for1s at 6,500+ restaurants in the UK, including many independents as well as chains such as Pizza Express and Ask Italian. Some restaurants won't accept it on certain days of the week (eg, Friday or Saturday nights) and on occasions such as Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and around Christmas. See the full restaurant location list.

More info

Here are some of the issues we raised with Tastecard that it says have since been addressed:

The renewal date for a Tastecard was five days before the expiry date on the card meaning users often missed the cut-off to cancel.

Tastecard CEO Matt Turner told us: “When we founded Tastecard we gave people 365 days on their membership card and their renewal date matched the expiry date on their card. This caused a large number of complaints because those people renewing (the vast majority of members) had to then wait on average five days to receive their new membership card. During this period they were therefore unable to receive their Tastecard discount. We then added five days to the expiry date on the card but kept the renewal date the same, ensuring that customers had continued access to the Tastecard discount.

"Following the article in MSE we have changed the renewal date to match the expiry date on the card. This has caused a number of complaints from customers as they now have to wait for five days again to receive their new card, but now that we have a digital membership we are able to give instructions on how to download and use the membership via the app. This of course does not help people who do not have a smartphone, but in those instances we will always try to call the restaurant and explain on the members’ behalf so that they can benefit from the discount.”

There was no way for annual members to cancel via Tastecard's website.

Tastecard told us you can now cancel an annual membership via this online cancellation form on its website. Online cancellations can be made up to 11.59pm on the last day (working or non-working) before renewal.

If you're a foodie, sign up via this MSE Blagged special Tastecard page* before 11.59pm on Fri 15 Jan and you'll enter a random ballot where 2,016 MSE’rs will be given a totally free one-year membership (which at full price costs £79.99 per year, though it's often discounted). No one's a loser with this as those who don't get picked will be given a free one-month membership instead.

This applies whether you've had a free trial or signed up for a subscription before or not (though only one's allowed per household - so if you share a house you may need to race to get one). When applying make sure you click 'find my address' and select your full postal address.

Tastecard logoFree 2-month Tastecard, OR 4 months for £1 for all*Get 50% off or 2for1 at 6,500+ restaurants

Expired

We've blagged two Tastecard deals for new and returning customers. There are two variants of this deal - two months completely free (where you won't need to cancel) or four months for £1. The deals are available through the below links only.

Important! If you go for the four months for £1 deal, you will need to cancel or you will be auto-renewed onto a year's membership at £39.99.

What is Tastecard?

Tastecard is a discount card scheme that gives 50% off or 2for1s at 6,500+ restaurants in the UK, including many independents as well as chains such as Pizza Express and Ask, although some won't accept it on a Friday or Saturday night and some may exclude all of December. At full price, the card costs £80/year, though it's often discounted.

The two options are...

1) Free two-month (60-day) Tastecard membership

Just sign up via this Tastecard* link by 11.59pm on Tue 22 Sep. It's available even if you've already had a free Tastecard trial, but it's one per household. No bank details needed. Once it ends it ends, you do nothing and there's no need to cancel after your trial is up.

2) £1 four-month (120-day) membership

You can get a four-month Tastecard membership for £1 by signing up via this Tastecard* link before 11.59pm on Tue 22 Sep.

WARNING: If you don't want this subscription to continue to a full year's £39.99 membership, you will need to cancel. You can do so via this new online cancellation* or by phone (0800 5677 241 or 01484 477 645, 9am-5pm, Mon-Fri). You must cancel at least five days before the end of your trial period.

Technically, you could cancel as soon as you receive your card and it will still be valid until the end of your trial period.

It used to be more difficult to cancel as you could only do so by phone (see our news story Tastecard users hit with fee after being unable to cancel auto enrolment) however, as part of MSE agreeing to run this deal, Tastecard has introduced the online cancellation form to make it easier for users to cancel.

With this four months for £1 offer you'll also get Tastecard+ membership (norm £24.99). It gets you discounts on hotels, cinemas and days out (eg, 40% off at Cineworld).

Before using your Tastecard, always check our restaurants vouchers page as there may be even better deals to be had.

More info

Tastecards can take up to 28 days to get to you by post, but you can use Tastecard instantly by downloading the mobile app on iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices.

Tastecard logo2,015 FREE one-year Tastecards (normally £80)*2,015 get picked in random ballot for 1 year card, the rest get 2 month card

Expired

MSE Update 8.45am, Wed 7 Jan: Some users have reported issues with the 'find my address' tool on the Tastecard page. When we tried, sometimes it's worked and sometimes it hasn't.  We've asked Tastecard to look into this, but  if you're having problems, try entering your address manually instead.

If you're a foodie, sign up via this MSE Blagged special Tastecard page* before 11.59pm on Mon 12 Jan and you'll enter a random ballot where 2,015 MSE’rs will be given a totally free full year's membership (which at full price normally costs £79.99/year). No one's a loser with this as those who don't get picked will be given a two-month membership instead.

This applies whether you've had a free trial or signed up for a year's subscription before or not (though only one's allowed per household - so if you share a house you may need to race to get one). When applying make sure you click 'find my address' and select your full postal address.

You don't need to give your bank details, so after two months or one year (depending on which one you get) the card just expires - though Tastecard may contact you to ask if you want to pay to sign up long-term, but there's no obligation whatsoever.

The one year Tastecard recipients will be picked at random on Tue 13 Jan. You will be notified via email by Wed 14 Jan on whether you got a two or 12 month card.

Tastecard logo£30 for 1-year Tastecard (full price £80)*50% off or 2for1 at 1,000s of restaurants. £6 goes to charity

Expired

Tastecard is a subscription discount card scheme that gives 50% off or 2for1 at 7,000+ UK restaurants. It includes independents, as well as chains like Pizza Express, Strada and Ask, (pickings are slim on a Friday or Saturday).

It’s running its annual charity promotion which means new members can get a year’s membership for £30* instead of £80 and it donates £6 to charity. You can often get a Tastecard for less than £80 but £30 is still a decent offering. Tastecard is a subscription offer, so cancel if you don’t want to be charged £80 next year (see below for more). You can choose a start date up to a month away.

Buying it as a gift?

Go via this Tastecard* link. This will enable you to choose a later start date within the next six months - ideal if you’re buying for Christmas. Tastecard has confirmed that all cards with a start date before Wed 17 Dec will be delivered before Christmas.

The offer ends at 11.59pm on Sun 5 Oct. Delivery's free.

Get a free upgrade to Tastecard+

You will also automatically be upgraded to a Tastecard+ membership when you buy via the link above, which Tastecard normally charges £24.99 for. It gets you discounts on hotels, cinemas and days out (for example 40% off at Cineworld), though many of these are available elsewhere for free.

Which charity is Tastecard donating to?

Tastecard will donate £6 from every sale to the charity Mary's Meals, where each £6 will feed and educate a child living in poverty overseas for six months.

IMPORTANT: It's worth noting, this is a subscription service and your membership will be automatically renewed at the end of the 12 months. The renewal price will be £29.99 for the Tastecard and £6 for Tastecard+. If you do not want to continue with your membership, call 0800 5677 241 or 01484 477 645 to cancel. It must be within your 12-month subscription period and no later than 5pm on the working day before your renewal date.

More info

Cards will be dispatched within 10 working days. Tastecard does sometimes offer year-long freebies but they don’t come around often. See the full restaurant location list.
