For the Main Site/ Martin's Money Tips

Q. How Do I Register For The Tip?

If you would like to register for Martin's weekly money tips, use the link below which also appears on the front page of the main site:

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips/

Q. I Would Like To Stop Getting The Tip Or Change The Address The E-mail Is Sent To

Please go to

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/

Fill in your e-mail address and click ‘Stop It'.  To change address, simply stop your old address and subscribe your new one.

Q. I've Registered For The Tip But I'm Not Receiving It

Check your e-mail client settings regarding junk mail/spam filtering as occasionally they can be over zealous. It's possible our e-mail has been filtered into one of these areas.

If you have already checked your spam filters, and still can't receive the tip then please e-mail
webmaster@moneysavingexpert.com
so we can investigate further.

Q. I Would Like To Ask Martin A Question

Although he would like to be able to, Martin is unable to reply individually to e-mails.  If it is a MoneySaving question, these are often answered in site articles.  To get to these, use the coloured buttons at the top of the page to take you to the different zones.
 f
For more information, use the zones and the links in the blue banners on the chat forum pages.  If you can't find what you're looking for, try posting in the chat forum, there are lots of experienced MoneySavers who will be only too happy to help you out.  If you desperately want to contact Martin you can use the PM facility on the chat forum, although this should be reserved for dire emergencies!

Q. Can You Link To My Site And Vice Versa?

The site is based on the binding principles of ‘free to use' 'ad-free' and 'impartial'.  That means the only sites linked to depend on editorial recommendation; we simply don't and won't do reciprocal links. You are more than welcome to link to MoneySavingExpert.com provided it doesn't appear that we are endorsing the product.  For more information on how the site generates revenue read How The Site Is Financed.

Q. I've Deleted My E-mail So Now I Can't Find The Information, Can You Resend The E-mail?

The e-mail is made up of links to articles and posts on the site.  So even if you delete the e-mail, the info is still on the site somewhere and can be found using the search function.  All old e-mails can also be found on the front page of the main site or view past e-mails.

Q. I'm Receiving E-mails, Although I Don't Remember Signing Up For Anything

MoneySavingExpert NEVER uses third party information.  It may be possible that a friend/family member or colleague has registered you without your knowledge. You can remove your name from the list fat any time if you do not wish to receive our e-mails.  It is also possible you're not actually receiving an e-mail from the site, but forwarded from someone.

To do that use the "Get It/ Stop It" box on the front page of the site (
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/).

Q. I Can't Click On Any Links In The E-mail

If you are using Outlook Express, then there is an option to change your mail format from Plain Text to HTML.  Go to Tools, then Options and find the section on Mail Format or Mail Sending Format.  This may well enliven the links.

It is possible that other e-mail clients have a similar option. You may need to contact your e-mail provider for more information - or use the
Techie section of the Chat Forum to ask other MoneySavers for help.

Q. I'm Having Trouble With The Mutterings For Martin's Money Tips.  Help!

Have a look at the chat forum thread Martin's Money Mutterings Video Download help or Martin's Money Mutterings Audio Download help.  Alternatively if your problem isn't solved there try posting on the chat forum.

Q.  Special Note For MoneySavers With AOL, Hotmail and Yahoo Accounts

Please be aware that these e-mail providers have very strict anti-Spam policies and that it is very easy for genuine messages to be mistaken for Spam. Pay special attention when subscribing to these type of e-mail accounts that our Tips do not get diverted to the Spam / Junk Mail folders.  It's worth checking on a Thursday morning to see if the Money Tip is in your spam filter.

If it is, then follow these links for instructions on how to unfilter the Money Tips:

AOL instructions (Unofficial AOL Help site)

Yahoo instructions (Read "Why are messages I want occasionally directed to my Bulk folder?")

Hotmail instructions (Read "Keep mailing list messages out of your Junk E-Mail folder")

If you are running a spam filter at work, please contact your ICT department.

Q.  Do I Have To Pay Anything?

No. All parts of MoneySavingExpert.com, including Martin's Money Tips, are completely free to use.

Q.  Will My E-mail Address Be Used For Advertising?

The site is free of all advertising. We only keep a record of your e-mail address so we can send you the Tip. We will not share your address with anyone else.

Q.  How Can I Tell If My Subscription Was Successful?

You will be sent a confirmation e-mail welcoming you to the Money Tips List.

Q.  When Should I Receive My First Tip?

Money Tips usually come out on a Wednesday, but please be aware that due to the nature of the Tips, they may come on a Tuesday or a Thursday and that, occasionally, special Tips are sent when particularly good or time-dependent deals are on offer.

Q.  What If I Don't Receive A Confirmation E-Mail?

Confirmations are normally sent out instantly but sometimes there may be delays with mail servers, ISPs or the Internet itself. Please check any spam filtering software you may have just in case it's filtered out and you can always check that you spelt your e-mail address correctly by trying to subscribe again (you will be given a message telling you if your e-mail address is already subscribed).  Finally, you can check with your ISP to see if they are filtering out any e-mails at its end.

If you still haven't received your confirmation e-mail 24 hours after subscribing, please contact webmaster@moneysavingexpert.com

Q.  Why Have My Tips Stopped Arriving?

Have you installed any spam filtering or firewall software recently? Has your ISP installed any new filters that may be stopping our Tips from getting through? We rarely change the configuration of our Tips so a sudden stop usually results from other factors.

Q.  When I Get The Money Tips, I Can't Read Them Or The Text Is Jumbled Up

This does happen sometimes. The tip is sent in the internet language HTML; some older e-mail reading software doesn't support it properly. The best thing to do is upgrade your e-mail reading software to the latfest version.

In the meantime, the tip is always duplicated in a fully readable version on the site. You access it by going to www.moneysavingexpert.com/latesttip.  You could see the 'not so readable e-mail' as a reminder to come to the site and read the tip properly.

Q.  I am disabled and this causes me access/viewing problems when using your website.  Is there anthing I can do?

The 2007 website redesign was carried out with the intention of improving accessibility.  Yet some site tools, such as the article publishing software, are those from when the site was originally set up in 2003.  More improvements are possible and prioritised, which should lead to more accesssable code.  However, it is an ongoing issue and any suggestions for how we can improve will be gratefully received; please e-mail them to
webmaster@moneysavingexpert.com

The Chat Forum

Q. Why Do I Need To Register?

Registration is so we can manage the Chat Forum in the event of abusive posts and stop spam. The purpose isn't to build a database. Nothing is ever done with your registration details - no third party e-mails are sent, they're not sold, it's a pure admin tool. For more details see the site's privacy policy.

Q. I Can't Remember My Password

If you have forgotten your password for the chat forum follow this link to the lost password recovery form.  Also have you definitely registered for the forum?  Registration for the forum and for Martin's Money Tips is separate.

Q. I Can't Logon

Make sure you are typing in your details correctly; logon to the chat forum is case sensitive and needs to be entered exactly as at registration.

Q. Can I Change My Chat Forum Username?

Generally usernames cannot be altered once an account is set up.  But in instances where you have used your e-mail address as your username please e-mail webmaster@moneysavingexpert.com with your current username and preferred username (with alternatives) for it to be changed to at our discretion.

Q. I've Signed Up For The Tips, Why Can't I Post In The Chat Forum?

Registration for the chat forum and tip is separate.  To use the chat forum so you can post questions to fellow forum users please use the link below:

Register here

Q. Why Do I Keep Being Logged Out Of The Chat Forum?

Check what level of Security / Privacy you have set in your Internet browser. It's possible it's set too high (to High for example), in which case you might not be accepting cookies which you need in order to stay logged in.  Try setting it to Medium and log in again.

Q. Can I Change My E-mail Address?

Once you have logged on to the chat forum, go to the brown bar near the top and click on ‘User CP'. Then select ‘edit e-mail and password' from the list on the left hand side.  Enter in your new details and click on ‘save changes'.

Don't forget, the chat forum is separate to Martin's Money Tips - so you will have to update those details separately.  See below.

Q. I Can't Activate My Chat Forum Account

If you haven't received the e-mail to complete your registration, first check the spam filters on your inbox to ensure you are able to receive mail from us.  If the confirmation link in the e-mail is not working, go the Chat Forums manually and login using the information from the registration e-mail.  If you're still having difficulty e-mail webmaster@moneysavingepert.com

Q. How Do I Report Abusive Chat Forum Posts Or Spammers?

Please e-mail abuse@moneysavingexpert.com (this is strictly only to report such posts).

Q. What Are Threads And Posts?

Posts are the individual questions or replies that people submit and threads are the series of posts in reply to the original post or question.

Q. How Do I Ask A Question In The Chat Forum?

First of all you need to be registered for the chat forum (separate to Martin's Money Tips).  Click the link below to register.

Register here

Once you are logged in click on the relevant board e.g.
Debt Free Wannabe.  At the top and bottom of the board there is a ‘New thread' button.  Click on this, enter your text and click on ‘submit new thread'.

Q. I Posted A Question And Now I Can't Find The Thread

When you are logged in your username will appear in the 'user's currently online box' at the bottom of the index page of the chat forum. If you click on it, you will be taken to your user profile. Click on 'find all posts' and you should be able to locate your post.  It is also possible to subscribe to threads by clicking on ‘thread tools' at the top of the thread and clicking on ‘subscribe to thread'.  You will then receive e-mail updates when someone posts on that thread.

Q.  Other Chat Forum Questions

For more detailed info about the chat forums have a look at the VBulletin Frequently Asked Questions.

The CallChecker

Q.  I Have A Suggestion For A New Provider To Be Added?

For a new provider to be added, we usually require that it's top for at least one destination or call type, it should also be an instant access provider (i.e. not Carrier Pre-Select where all your calls are routed through).  If you could let us know for which country or type of call it comes top we will add it to the database. To do this, e-mail: newcallprovider@moneysavingexpert.com detailing what countries/call types the new provider is cheapest for.

Q.  I Don't Understand How This All Works? Please Can You Explain?

Please read the UK Home Phones article (for the UK CallChecker) or for making international calls (the International CallChecker) see the International CallChecker article for more details.

Q.  Please Can You Tell Me The Cheapest Way To Call Country X?

That's exactly what the CallChecker is for.  If you haven't tried it, just select what you're looking for and see the results.  I'm really sorry but we can't do the comparison for you - that's why we provide the tool.

Q.  Why Aren't Mainstream Providers Like Primus Or Talk Talk Included?

The UK CallChecker only includes instant access providers, One-Tel and BT are included just for the sake of a typical comparison of costs.  For a complete guide to home phones including mainstream providers see the UKs Cheapest Home Phone Calls Providers article.

Q.  Can You Add VoIP Providers To The International Callchecker?

This is something we are currently working on and will hopefully be added soon.

Q.  I've Tried A Few Times But I Can't Get Connected

Override providers and connection ability is generally quite good, though providers often underbuy capacity to keep costs low and this can sometimes affect connection.  If this happens just go to the CallChecker and try the next cheapest option.

Q.  The CallChecker Price Is Different To The One Advertised On The Providers Site

Prices on the CallChecker take 24 hours to update so on the day of a price change prices may not be correct.  Always double check with the site itself that the price listed on the CallChecker is correct.  Also remember these prices are only for calling from BT phones.  It's also worth noting that the CallChecker is simply a way of reporting the prices listed on providers website - there is no commercial link between MoneySavingExpert and the call providers so if they are listing incorrect prices there is little we can do about it.
