Scottish Power flexes muscles in energy price war

Scottish Power has hit back in the energy price war with a new tariff that will be the cheapest for many homes.

Its Online Energy Saver v7 tariff is the third-cheapest deal available nationwide yet it is the best-priced in four of the 14 British energy regions, according to price comparison site Energyhelpline.com (see the Cheap Gas & Electricity guide).

The site says a typical family in the Eastern region (which includes north-east London and nearby counties), where this tariff is at its cheapest, would pay £935 a year for gas and electricity.

The tariff is also cheapest for homes in the East Midlands, Scottish Power (not to be confused with the company name) and Southern England regions.

Earlier this month, First Utility and Ovo also introduced cut-price tariffs which makes them the cheapest and second-cheapest providers, respectively.
