Following the devastating cyclone that’s hit Burma, with 15,000 dead and many 10,000s displaced or desperate for help, this site will donate 50p for every genuine new UK recipient of this free e-mail list between now and Sunday 11 May midnight.

Please Spread the Word

Please tell everyone you know.

Please tell friends, family, lovers, partners, colleagues, people you travel on the bus with, anyone you can think of. They'll save money, and much-needed cash will get to the victims of this disaster. Also feel free to post it on other website forums, though please don't break any spamming or other rules doing so.

Every single penny is needed to help. Thus, to help aid those who can’t afford to donate themselves, the money will go to the specific Oxfam appeal unless the DEC sets up an appeal when it’ll go there. If you do want to donate extra yourself, you can do it on the Oxfam page too

The logic behind this.

We first did this after the South Asian Tsunami. The logic's simple: it helps Burma, it helps the site and it helps your friend save money. It's based on the charity fundraising model devised by The Hunger site. It’s important to note, this donation is on top of the site’s usual charity donations.

On a typical day, around 2,500 people join the list, so by Sunday its hoped at least £6,000 will be donated. However if people spread the word and encourage friends to join up, it could be much more. The scale of the disaster is huge, yet a little bit of cash by our standards will go a long way to helping. If you're wondering how a free site can afford to do this, read the How this site’s funded article.
