This is a nifty trick to get £15 of Amazon gift cards for a tenner, by manipulating an Amazon promotion.
What’s the promotion?
Until 3.29pm on Fri 20 Nov, you can get a free £5 electronic gift card if you order items on Amazon’s Pass My Parcel* scheme, which delivers your items to local pick-up locations including newsagents, convenience stores and supermarkets. Not bad in itself if it’s convenient for you.
What’s the trick?
Our first idea was just order something cheap to get the free gift card, but as items under £20 can see delivery up to £5 anyway, it defeats the point. However, if you order an ‘In a Greetings Card’ gift card* (minimum is £10), then it has free one-day delivery. Just ensure you select ‘Why not click and collect?’ and search for Pass My Parcel locations to get the free £5 gift card emailed to you within 14 days of collecting your item.
Once you’ve ordered, you’ll be sent a unique pick-up code to physically get your item, and you’ll have to wait up to 14 days from this point to receive the free gift card by email. However, as long as you’ve ordered your parcel by 3.29pm on Fri 20 Nov, you’ll be eligible.
You may want to give these gift cards to someone or alternatively just use them yourself on an Amazon spend.
Anything to watch for?
Obviously you need the pick-up place to be convenient and in your area, so do check before you commit – we asked Amazon which areas are included, but it hasn’t confirmed yet. When we tried, our local options included a Sainsbury’s store, a local newsagents and a Nisa convenience store.
You need to pick it up within seven days and once you have, this will verify you have used the Pass My Parcel service and your free £5 gift card will be emailed to you.
Make sure you select standard delivery, or else you could be charged £4.99 (thanks to John Pickering who spotted this and emailed in).
The promotion is limited to one free £5 gift card per person and the T&Cs state: “Amazon Gift Cards may be redeemed on the Amazon.co.uk website towards the purchase of eligible products listed in our online catalogue and sold by Amazon.co.uk or any other seller selling through Amazon.co.uk. GCs cannot be reloaded, resold, transferred for value, redeemed for cash or applied to any other account.”
