Online food retailer Ocado* is not normally known for having the lowest prices, but with this trick you can score a bargain and pay just £4 for £50-worth of cleaning products, drinks and even a lemon tart – sweet.
For this trick, you’ll need to have the cashback app CheckoutSmart downloaded on your smartphone. If you’re new to this, see my supermarket cashback apps blog and video guide.
How to do it
Until Sunday (21 Feb), there’s a deal online at daily deals site Wowcher* where you can get a £50 Ocado voucher plus six months’ free delivery for £35 all-in (normally £99.99).
If you combine this with CheckoutSmart offers by adding the right items to your basket (to a value of £50 or over), then you can claim up to £31 cashback on your shop too. This essentially means you’ll only end up paying £4 for £50-worth of groceries.
What’s the catch?
You’ll have to buy the offers that CheckoutSmart has, so you’ll be restricted in terms of your weekly shop, but within this deal you can start building up a stockpile of cleaning products, some fruit crisps, drinks and a lemon tart as a treat for yourself.
What do I need to buy?
I’ve rounded up the best-paying offers into a shopping list to max out the CheckoutSmart cashback, but of course there are more offers on the app for you to choose if this list doesn’t appeal. A lot of CheckoutSmart offers can be claimed more than once, so matching these with Ocado offers gives you more for your money… or voucher:
- 12x Dettol disinfectant spray mountain air (400ml) – £1 cashback each (£12 total)
- 4x Dettol power and fresh wipes (32 pack) – £1 cashback each (£4 total)
- 1x Finish all-in-one dishwasher tablets (56 pack) – £8 cashback
- 1x Dettol power and fresh crisp linen (500ml) – £1 cashback
- 3x Belvoir elderflower presse light (750ml) – £1 cashback each (£3 total)
- 3x Emily apple fruit crisps (30g) – Free when bought with Belvoir on Ocado
- 1x Brioche pasquier lemon tart (800g) – £3 cashback
- 1x Tate & Lyle golden granulated sugar (750g) – £1 cashback
- 1x Barratt sherbet dip dab (23g) – Just to make the total over £50.
By buying this list, when you receive your receipt from Ocado and scan it in, you’ll receive £31 cashback. Because you only spent £35 to get the £50 voucher, once you’ve received the £31 cashback, you’ll have made a massive £46 saving and only paid £4 for a good five years’ supply of disinfectant spray (and more).
