If you’re in the market for a new PS4, at the moment there’s a crafty way you can combine two offers with a £20 off code online at Tesco Direct to build the best value bundle we’ve seen all year…
There are three separate parts to this, but done right, it means you can pick up a black entry-level PS4 500GB console with an extra controller and two games – Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and Until Dawn – for £259 until Tue 3 May.
This amount normally only gets you a standalone console elsewhere, but with this deal you’re getting the console plus about £95 of extras (we reckon it’s worth £355ish in total). As with any top deal, it’s safer to go quick in case stock runs out.
Here’s how to get it:
Part one – £279 PS4 bundle (console, two controllers, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3) SOLD OUT
MSE Update 3.15pm Tue 3 May: This bundle’s no longer available as it’s been really popular and the controllers have all sold out. Unfortunately, Tesco has told us it won’t be getting more stock before the offer ends tonight.
Go via this Tesco Direct* link by Thu 5 May, and follow its three on-screen steps to build your bundle:
– ‘Step 1’ is to add the console (it includes one controller) to your basket and click ‘continue shopping’.
– Select the ‘step 2’ tab, add an extra PS4 controller to your basket then click ‘continue shopping’.
– Select the ‘step 3’ tab and then add Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to your basket.
If you don’t complete all three steps, you won’t get the bundle for £279. You’ll be charged the individual prices for the items, which could add up to more than £279.
Part two – ‘FREE’ Until Dawn game
Tesco has a separate offer running until Thu 5 May for a free Until Dawn game when you buy a black PS4 500GB console. To get this, follow the steps above, then:
– Click ‘continue shopping’, then using the search bar at the top of Tesco’s website search for Until Dawn, add it to your basket and proceed to the checkout.
Part three – £20 off code making it £259
This is where you can bring the price of this overall bundle down with a £20 off £150+ code valid on selected electricals and gaming until Tue 3 May. At the payment stage:
– Click ‘add eCoupons’, enter the code TDX-HYW3 and you’ll get a £20 discount, cutting your total spend to £259. Click and collect is free, if you want it delivered it’s £3.
How good is this deal?
A PS4 500GB console alone is £258.85 at ShopTo (the cheapest we found), so it’s effectively offering a free controller (£41.99 at Amazon), Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (£31.86 at ShopTo), and Until Dawn (£21.85 at Simply Games) – a combined cost of £354.55.
Bundles offer combinations of products that are less expensive than the sum of their individual parts, so they’re a great way to pick up a few extras relatively cheaply. These deals change frequently, and this isn’t the only competitive bundle out there – a notable alternative we spotted on Tue 26 Apr was a black PS4 500GB console with highly-rated Dark Souls III (norm £40ish) for £254.99 at Amazon.
However, we reckon the Tesco bundle combined with the £20 off code offers the best-value PS4 deal we’ve seen for some time as you’re effectively getting almost £100 of extras for free in addition to a competitively-priced console, including blockbuster game Black Ops 3.
Don’t want all of the extras? You can sell them
If you didn’t want the extras, you could always sell them online or trade them in at a second-hand goods retailer such as CEX. When we checked it was offering £21 for a PS4 controller, £11 for Black Ops 3 and £9 for Until Dawn (or more in store credit if you’d rather trade them towards another purchase). That’s £41 cash in total, effectively reducing the cost of Tesco’s PS4 from £259 to £218.
