£289 PS4 combo (norm £365ish), incl blockbuster new release Uncharted 4, Doom + Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

MSE Update 1.40pm Thu 12 May: PS4 consoles are now back in stock at Tesco Direct after selling out on Wed 11 May.

If you’re looking to buy a new PS4, at the moment there’s a crafty way you can combine two offers with a £20 off code online at Tesco Direct to build one of the best value bundles we’ve seen…

There are three separate parts to this, but done right it means you can pick up a black entry-level PS4 500GB console with some blockbuster games – Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Doom and Call of Duty Black Ops 3 – for £289 until Sun 15 May.

The cheapest standalone PS4 console we could find on Tue 10 May was £260, but with this deal you’re getting the console plus over £100-worth of games – including Uncharted 4, which was only released on Tue (we reckon the bundle’s worth £365ish in total).

If you’re only interested in the console and Uncharted 4, you can get this for £259 – cheaper than buying just the console anywhere else. Though it could work out even cheaper to grab this £289 bundle and sell any games you don’t want (see below).

Tesco told us stock levels for the products included in this new promotion are high, but as with any top deal, it’s safer to go quick in case some sell out (as happened with a similar deal last month). Some users have reported initially receiving a ‘PS4 sold out’ message when attempting to get this deal, however after clearing their basket and trying again shortly after they’ve been successful. Let us know how you fare in the comments section below.

Here’s how to get it:

Part one – £309 PS4 bundle (console, one controller, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Doom pre-order)

Go via this Tesco Direct* link by Mon 23 May, and follow its three on-screen steps to build your bundle:

– ‘Step 1’ is to add the console (it includes one controller) to your basket and click ‘continue shopping’. If you just want the console and Uncharted 4 for £259, skip the next two steps and go straight to Part 2. If not:

– Select the ‘step 2’ tab, add Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to your basket then click ‘continue shopping’.

– Select the ‘step 3’ tab and click ‘pre-order’ to add Doom to your basket (the game releases on Fri 13 May), then click ‘continue shopping’.

Part two – ‘FREE’ Uncharted 4 game (norm £42)

Tesco Direct has a separate offer running until Mon 23 May for a free Uncharted 4 game when you buy a black PS4 500GB console. To get this, follow the steps above, then:

– Using the search bar at the top of Tesco Direct’s website search for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, add it to your basket and proceed to the checkout.

Part three – £20 off code making it £289 for the bundle (or £259 for PS4 & Uncharted 4 only)

This is where you can bring the price of the overall package down with a £20 off £150+ Tesco Direct code for new and existing customers valid until Sun 15 May. At the payment stage:

– Click ‘add eCoupons’, enter the code TDX-KPMW and you’ll get a £20 discount, cutting your total spend to £289 (or £259 if you just want the console and Uncharted 4). Click and collect is free, if you want it delivered it’s £3.

How good is this deal?

When we looked on Tue 10 May, the cheapest you could buy these products separately was about £365. So if you’re interested in everything that’s included, the bundle’s a straightforward way of saving about £100.

If you just want the console and Uncharted 4 (which has been lauded by critics), the cheapest we’ve seen them in a bundle elsewhere is £279ish. So the smaller Tesco bundle at £259 is a pretty decent offer as well.

However, if you can afford the extra £30, we reckon the £289 bundle’s a better choice – as you can sell the games to claw back as much as £80 (see below).

This Tesco offer isn’t the only decent PS4 bundle available – a highly competitive alternative is a black PS4 500GB console with Uncharted 4, Doom and a three-month Now TV Entertainment Pass for £288.85 at ShopTo.

Don’t want the extras? Sell them

If you don’t want all the games, you could squeeze extra value out of this deal by selling some of them online or at a second-hand goods retailer such as CEX. When we checked on Fri 13 May, it was offering £35 cash for Uncharted 4, £32 for Doom, and £13 for Black Ops 3, so £80 combined.

Prices fluctuate with demand, so you might get less for the games at a later date, but if you sold Doom and Black Ops 3 at CEX at the time of writing, you’d effectively get a PS4 and Uncharted 4 for £244 (£15 cheaper than the £259 price Tesco is asking for the console and game). Or if you sold all three games you’d effectively get a PS4 console on its own for £209.
