Stop what you’re doing – do not pass go and do not collect £200. From Saturday 3 September, if you’ve any old Monopoly money lying around, you can bag a totally free Monopoly Electronic board game (norm £20) until Friday 9 September, while stocks last.

To get it, just advance to a Smyths Toys Superstore (find your nearest*) and hand over a 50 note (no, not a real one – just a single 50 note from any Monopoly game). Staff will stamp the note and return it to you along with the Monopoly Electronic board game worth £20. You can then simply walk out of the store with it under your arm, with no danger of going to jail.

Monopoly Electronic is basically an updated version of the classic board game designed to reflect modern life – so the properties cost millions and all banking is done via plastic bank cards rather than cash. Simply insert your card into a mini chip and pin banking machine to pay, earn and exchange money.

Any restrictions?

Time to iron out some details. To avoid the Water Works, Smyths says it needs to be a 50 note, no combination of 20s, 10s, 5s or 1s will be accepted.

And yes, I know Monopoly comes with a stack of 50 notes, but you can only claim one free game per household – so there’s no wheelbarrowing lots of them out the door.

Smyths hasn’t confirmed how many each store will have to give out, so going this Saturday will give you the strongest chance (see the full T&Cs).

This would be a great present to put away for December… I can’t bring myself to say the “C” word yet! Here’s what you’ll get:
