It’s the most depressing day of the year (according to scientific research) – but whether you feel blue or not, you can pick up some freebies on Mon 16 Jan that are bound to make you smile.

Nothing makes me happier than free food – so if you’re like me, then these free food and drink offers will leave you jumping for joy on ‘Blue Monday’.

Free burger & side at Gourmet Burger Kitchen

At all GBK restaurants across the UK on Monday, the first 50 people in each restaurant to show their customer ID (via the free GBK app) – will receive a free 4oz burger and a side of their choice. And if you happen to be near the GBK in London’s Soho – incidentally, the closest to MSE Towers – there’ll be 500 freebies up for grabs (maybe I’ll see you in the queue). In total, over 4,000 burgers and sides are being given away around the country.

It’s first-come first-served and for dine in only. Most restaurants open at 11:30am – so if you want your free lunch, it might be worth getting there earlier. Burgers normally start at £5.35 and sides from £1.50 – so you’ll save at least £6.85 on your grub. Once you’ve downloaded the app, enter a few details to sign up and receive your customer ID on the home screen of the app.

99p mains at Busaba Eathai

Thai restaurant chain Busaba is offering nine main courses for 99p each between 12pm and 4pm on Mon 16 Jan. It has restaurants in London, Manchester, Liverpool and St Albans.

Free mini red velvet cupcake at Konditor & Cook

This one is sadly just for Londoners – the posh bakery Konditor & Cook is giving away free mini red velvet cupcakes on Mon 16 Jan. Just pop into your nearest to pick one up.

Free Pizza at Franco Manca (if you were born in January)

Go along to any Franco Manca restaurant on Mon 16 Jan, and if you show proof of ID that you were born in January, you’ll get a free pizza (dine in only).

Franco Manca restaurants are mostly in London and the South East, but a great freebie if you fit the bill.

‘Free’ drink at Pret a Manger?

You might remember last year, Pret A Manger gave away 100,000+ cups with a ‘free drink’ sleeve on for Blue Monday when you bought a drink in store, with the purpose of giving to a friend (or stranger) to make them smile. The sleeves were added at random by baristas – but there were plenty circulating.

I got in contact with Pret A Manger to see if this would happen again, and while it didn’t confirm – they said they are doing something to make people smile again this year. I’ll keep a lookout on its website and social media and update you when we know more about the promotion.

These are the freebies we know about so far – there may be more on the day and we’ll update you if there are. I hope these deals cheer you up and keep you fed.

Will you be grabbing any freebies on Blue Monday? Have you seen any other Blue Monday offers? I’d love to know in the comments below, on Twitter @MSE_Deals or on Facebook.
