It’s BACK… Sainsbury’s is again running three different promotions which you can combine – known as code stacking – to get a corking deal on bottles of fizz.
Until Tue 31 Oct, newbies to Sainsbury’s* online can effectively get prosecco from £1.50 to £3ish a bottle (norm £6-£10), though you have to buy six. Even existing Sainsbury’s shoppers, both online and in big Sainsbury’s stores (excluding Scotland), could still get it for £4.50 per bottle – a tasty saving.
If prosecco isn’t your tipple, you can also use this trick on wine and champagne. We’ve highlighted the prosecco as it’s an outstanding price on a popular drink, but you could also get champers for £7.50 per bottle (norm £18).
Obviously, this isn’t a ‘down it in one’ deal. The idea’s to store it up for when needed, either for yourself or gifts (be Drinkaware). Multi-buy drinks offers are not valid in Scotland due to alcohol promotion laws.
Our trick has proved mega-popular with MoneySavers previously, and although Sainsbury’s says stock of the cheapest prosecco is “good”, it’s sold out quickly in the past – so you’ll have to go quick if you want this.
Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Find a cheap prosecco or champagne at Sainsbury’s.
These bottles are currently available at Sainsbury’s:
– Sainsbury’s Prosecco Frizzante*– £6/bottle
– Taste The Difference Conegliano Prosecco* – £7.50/bottle (down from £10 till Tue 31 Oct)
– Etienne Dumont Brut Champagne*– £14/bottle (down from £18 till Tue 31 Oct)
Step 2: Sainsbury’s also has 25% off six bottles.
Buy any six bottles of wine or champagne for delivery between Wed 25 Oct and Tue 31 Oct, and you’ll automatically get a 25% discount.
That means you can buy:
– Six bottles of Sainsbury’s Prosecco Frizzante*for £27 (£4.50/bottle)
– Six bottles of Taste The Difference Conegliano Prosecco* for £33.75 (£5.63/bottle)
– Six bottles of Etienne Dumont Brut Champagne* for £63 (£10.50/bottle)
Delivery online is £1-£7 (or free if you collect in a store).
It’s at this point that existing online customers can’t go any further as the code below is for newbies, but the deals above from £4.50 per bottle are still decent.
Step 3: Now for the big trick – if you’re new to Sainsbury’s grocery online, boost the offer further with an £18 off £60 code.
IMPORTANT: You’ll need to buy groceries you’d buy anyway AND have your order delivered/collected before 11pm on Tue 31 Oct for this to work.
Use the code SCSPPCOCT18 and you’ll get £18 off when you spend £60* (code expires Wed 8 Nov). Yet the T&Cs state:
“When using a promotional money-off voucher, the value of the goods other than spirits, liqueurs or wine during a buy 6 save 25% multibuy offer must be at least equal to the money off offered by the promotional voucher.”
In plain speak, it means you’ll need to spend a minimum £60, of which at least £18 needs to be stuff other than booze for it to work.
So how do you get it for £1.50? If you go for the Sainsbury’s Prosecco Frizzante*, it’s £27 for six bottles, so you’d need to spend £33 on groceries to reach the £60 minimum spend. Then with the £18 off, it’s £42. As you’ve spent £33 on normal groceries, it’s £9 for the six bottles of prosecco, or £1.50 per bottle (plus delivery if you can’t pick up in a store for free).
The £14 Etienne Dumont Brut Champagne* would work out at £7.50 per bottle – a cracking deal if champagne’s your tipple.
It’s worth noting that if you buy more than six bottles, the price per bottle will go up slightly with this deal, as you’d still be getting £18 off but your spend would be higher.
Step 4: Check your basket to ensure it’s gone as planned.
All these discounts should show up in your basket before you pay – if not, something’s gone wrong.
Step 5: Change your substitution preferences to avoid any surprises.
If you only want the cheapest prosecco or champagne, make sure you untick the box which says ‘allow substitutions’ when you order, as that way if it’s not in stock, you’ll just get your groceries, not a pricier bottle of booze, which has happened to some in the past when using this trick.
And when your delivery arrives, make sure you check what you have received with the driver. If you do receive substitutions, you can choose whether you want to accept them or send them back.
