Nectar hack: Spend £12 at Sainsbury’s and get £9 back in points this bank holiday weekend
This Nectar promotion for new and existing customers involves a bit of work, but will send tingles down the spines of point collectors everywhere...
From this Friday to Monday inclusive (24-27 May), when you spend £1 or more on virtually anything at Sainsbury’s online, in store or on petrol, you’ll be credited with an extra 150 points (worth 75p) if you swipe your Nectar card. If you don’t already have a Nectar card they are free to get from Sainsbury’s, where you can also get 10p/litre off fuel (from Thu).
As the rules say you can do this up to three times each day, you could spend £1 in three separate transactions per day and get £2.25 of points back per day - assuming you find stuff to match that spend, which is possible on staples such as bread, milk, fruit and veg.
Over all four days you could therefore spend £12 and get 1,800 points, worth £9, back. They should be added to your account within 48 hours of your purchase.
Even if you’re slightly over £1 for each spend, it’s still a good return. See the full T&Cs on Sainsbury's website (link only works on desktop), or see below if you're a mobile user.
Why is this so good?
While Nectar points aren’t usually worth as much as Tesco Clubcard or Boots Advantage points this is significantly more than the usual one point per £1 spent. Normally you would need to spend £1,800 to notch up this many points.
What can I spend my points on?
Once you’ve got your bonus points, for every 500 you have they can be converted into £2.50 to spend at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Vue cinemas and eBay. You can convert 1,000 points into £5 to spend at Pizza Hut.
I hope this helps you out with your shopping. I’m going to be buying a lot of £1 chocolate bars this weekend (if you’ll do the same, make sure you know about Sweet Sundays).
Will you be taking advantage of this? I’d love to know how you get on in the comments below, on Twitter @MSE_Deals or on Facebook.
