Boots trick... Get £80+ of beauty products for £20
Including L'Oreal lipstick, Rimmel eyeliner, Maybelline mascara & Garnier face mask
Until Wed 11 Sep, Boots* has a deal where if you buy £20 of selected beauty products in store or online, you get a free 'Beauty Edit' box with contents worth £37 individually.
This is a decent deal in its own right, but there are a few tricks you can use to get more beauty for your buck, and actually get over £80 of beauty products for £20ish (and in my case I got £84), plus up to £4 of Boots Advantage card points.
Step 1: Spend £20 on selected beauty products
To get the free Beauty Edit box, you need to spend at least £20 on selected make-up. Boots says all self-selection cosmetics (not premium brands such as Benefit or Clinique) are included in the offer, eg, L’Oreal, Rimmel, Maybelline, Max Factor etc. It won’t work if you buy No7 or new brands – see ‘Excluded brands’ for a full list.
Get more beauty for your buck buying products in an 'up to 70% off' sale
As you need to spend £20 or more to get the Beauty Edit box, you can maximise this deal by stacking it with other Boots offers and sales, to get more make-up for your money – just make sure you only get products that qualify for the £20 minimum spend.
For example, I spotted that Boots' own brand, CYO, has ‘up to 70% off’ selected cosmetics* , so I chose to buy cosmetics from this brand for the biggest overall saving. Here’s what I bought in store on Fri 30 Aug:
Product | Sale Price | Normal Price |
CYO Metalasting shine metallic liquid lipstick* | £1.80 | £6 (70% off) |
CYO Sweeping statement eye stick* | £2.25 | £4.50 (50% off) |
CYO Two clever by half lipstick & liner* |
£2.75 | £5.50 (50% off) |
2x CYO Three and easy eyeliner* | £1.35 each | £4.50 each (70% off) |
CYO Shadow, liner and mascara* | £3.25 | £6.50 (50% off) |
CYO Tailor shade concealer* | £3.25 | £6.50 (50% off) |
CYO Colour nutrition moisturising lipstick* | £2.50 | £5 (50% off) |
CYO Matte lot of good lipstick* | £2 | £4 (50% off) |
Sale price = £20.50 | Normal price = £47 | |
Some of the items above are on sale in stores, but not online. |
By choosing items that were in the sale at 50% or 70% off, I was able to get products that would usually cost £47 for £20.50. Of course, if you really want to get the most for your money you could just buy items that were only reduced by 70%, but realistically you probably wouldn’t want multiple of the same product.
Boots has confirmed that the CYO sale will be available online until Tue 22 Oct, but could end sooner in stores depending on availability – therefore sale items may differ in stores compared to what’s available online. Remember though, if you’re buying online, delivery’s £3.50, unless you click & collect in store for free.
Step 2: Pick up a ‘free’ Boots Beauty Edit box (items would cost £36.81 if bought individually)
Once you’ve got £20 of beauty products, simply pick up a Beauty Edit box (which are displayed with the self-selection make-up counters) and take it to the checkout with you. If you're purchasing online, the box should automatically be added to your basket once it reaches the £20 qualifying spend (after any discounts).
Boots says most large stores will have the boxes, while stock lasts, so go quick if this is something you're after.
The products inside the beauty box are all pre-selected so you can't choose what’s inside, but it's clearly labelled on the back of the box – see the table below for the full contents:
Product | Price if bought separately |
Garnier moisture bomb hydrating face sheet mask 32g* | £1.99 (was £2.99) |
Maybelline great lash mascara 12.5l (Very black)* | £5.99 |
NYX Lip lingerie liquid lipstick 22g (various shades)* | £7 |
L'Oreal color riche matte addiction lipstick 50ml (Erotique or Moka chic)* | £7.99 |
Sleek makeup matte me lip cream 6ml (various shades)* | £2.99 |
Rimmel London 60 seconds super shine nail polish 8ml (Coralicious)* | £2.99 |
Rimmel London ultimate kohl kajal liner 2.3g (various shades)* | £5.99 |
L'Oreal Paris Revitalift filler replumpling ampoules sachet* | £1.87 (for 1.5ml sample, £19.99 for 16ml full-size) |
Total cost = £36.81 |
As you can see, if you were to buy these beauty items individually, it would cost £36.81, so this is a decent deal for a £20 spend – especially if you're planning on buying some of these products anyway, or to give as gifts.
£83.81 of products for £20.50
If you look at what I bought as an example, I spent £20.50 on a range of CYO make-up, which would normally cost £47. As I spent just over £20, I was then eligible for the free Beauty Edit box, with items that would cost £36.81 if bought individually. So I got make-up that would usually cost £83.81 for £20.50:
Get up to £4 of Boots Advantage card points
What’s more, if you have a Boots Advantage card, make sure to check its current promotions before you buy. For example, I had an offer for ‘400 bonus points when you spend £20 or more’, which meant I also got £4 worth of points to spend on a future purchase at Boots.
MSE Laura managed to use two offers - '200 points when you spend £10 on Beauty' and '150 points when you spend £15’, so received an extra £3.50 worth of Boots Advantage points.
To get this offer, simply download the Boots app via the App Store for Apple or Play Store for Android, sign in or register your free Boots Advantage card and find the promotion in the 'My Offers' section. Select the 'Load' button to add it onto your card.
A final extra saving - grab 5% cashback
Airtime Rewards, a free app that deducts cashback from your phone bill, gives you 5% cashback on every spend you make at Boots. See MSE Jordon’s Airtime Rewards blog for more info.
