Kids go 'free' to 50+ West End shows

With a paying adult. Including hits such as Wicked, Mrs Doubtfire & Shrek

The popular 'Kids Week' theatre promotion is back. You can nab a free child ticket (for children aged 17 and under) to 50+ London theatre shows with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket from the Official London Theatre's Kids Week website. It's for selected performances from Wednesday 24 July until Friday 6 September, while tickets last.

Shows include Shrek, Mrs DoubtfireWicked, Sister Act, Wizard of Oz, The Play That Goes Wrong and more – see the full list of 50+ shows. Tickets went on sale on Tuesday 11 June, and popular shows and seats can sell out fast, so go quick if it's something you want.

Kids Week need-to-knows

If you're bringing more than one child, the first child ticket is free and then you can get 50% off for a maximum of two more children per adult. Savings can be up to £90 depending which shows and seats are selected – and there are no booking or postage fees.

It's not every performance of every show – some exclude their most popular performances, such as matinees or weekends. Tickets are distributed randomly across all dates, shows and seat prices, so it helps to be flexible in your choice.

During the booking process you'll get to see which seats are available. You can book a maximum of eight tickets per show (one free child per paying adult). If you can't find the tickets you want, it's worth checking back at a later date – in past years we've seen some shows increase their allocation of tickets as time goes on.

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.
And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
