A few years ago, the only way to know if you'd be accepted for a loan was by applying, which would leave a mark on your credit report. Our Eligibility Calculator uses a 'soft search' (that lenders can't use) to let you know the likelihood of you getting the top loans.

About the loan
Loan length

Loan length

The larger the loan, the longer you usually have to pay if off, so you will see the number of years you can choose to clear it rise as you select bigger amounts.

How your loan length affects the cost

Assuming the same loan, the longer the length, the less the monthly cost. However, the overall cost will rise as you're borrowing for a longer period.

Why can't I do it by month?

Why can't I do it by month?

If we allowed you to search by month, the tool would not show all loans, as many work by the year. But when you get to the lender's site, some will offer you loans in various monthly increments, and this may work out better for you.

The loan length needs to be 7 years max - 84 months

Weíre not being nosey, lenders require this.
This tool doesn't show any loans for under £1,000. Read more.
For loans under under £5,000 a credit card is usually a cheaper option and once you go below £1,000, it's so hideously expensive to get a loan that you should explore this option. However, it's not guaranteed that you'll get a big enough credit limit for the amount of money you want to borrow. For full information see the Credit Card Loans guide.
We've had to round your loan amount up, as you can't get a loan below £1,000. Read more.

About you and your circumstances

Usually the only way you know your chances of getting a loan is to apply, but as soon as you do that it leaves a mark on your credit file. At MoneySavingExpert we think that's wrong, that's why we've created the Loans Eligibility tool.

The information you provide us will allow us to tell you your chances of getting a loan BEFORE you apply, meaning no mark is left on your credit file. If you're chances aren't great (usually less than 60%), then you know it's a risk to apply.
