Sainsbury's cans 'My Coupons' scheme - but Nectar points bonanza is on the way
Sainsbury's shoppers have been left disappointed by the supermarket's decision to can its long-running 'My Coupons' trial - but there's a silver lining in the form of a 'Nectar 10x Point' event over the upcoming bank holiday weekend.
The My Coupons scheme, which has been running on a prolonged trial basis since 2014, will be pulled on 6 May and any outstanding coupons must be redeemed by 11.59pm on that date. Affected customers should have already received a email to confirm the closure.
The scheme allows Nectar card members who have registered with the My Coupons site to choose up to five coupons to add to their 'My Coupons Wallet', each of which offers about 50 bonus points on products they usually buy.
To compensate customers impacted by the closure of the scheme, Sainsbury's will be dishing out 500 bonus Nectar points - worth roughly £2.50 - as "an extra thank you for using My Coupons".

Customers 'very disappointed'
As news of the scheme's scrapping began to filter through, customers took to Twitter to voice their frustration:
Nectar card members can earn 10x points this weekend
Despite the binning of the My Coupons scheme, there is some good news for Sainsbury's customers over the May Day bank holiday weekend in the form of a 'Nectar 10x Points' event.
The Nectar 10x Points weekend gives Sainsbury’s customers ten times the amount of Nectar points on every shop (although some exclusions apply). The promotion will run from Friday 28 April until Monday 1 May.
Nectar card holders can simply swipe their card during their shop and in return will get one base point and nine bonus points for each full £1 spent. The bonus points are added directly onto the Nectar card, giving a significant boost to card holders’ points balances.
The promotion runs across all superstores and Sainsbury's locals, and most petrol stations (you'll receive 10 points per litre of fuel). You can also get bonus points on online grocery, home and electrical orders DELIVERED between 28 April and 1 May. For full info and the few exclusions see our full Nectar 10x boost write-up.
What does Sainsbury's say?
A spokesperson said: "Although we’re closing My Coupons, there are still lots of ways for customers to collect and get great value from their Nectar points including Nectar 10x Points Weekends, which will be running over the early May Bank Holiday.
"Through personalised rewards, we’re also doing more to give our customers bonus points on the products that matter to them most."
