Sainsbury's second supermarket to cut price of cosmetic cotton buds after MSE investigation

Our Baby aisle bargains blog spot earlier this week listed a series of bargains that can be found in supermarkets' baby aisles at significantly lower prices than similar or near-identical alternatives elsewhere in the same shop.

A key example we singled out was cotton buds sold in Tesco's cosmetic aisle at £1.50 for a pack of 200 (75p per 100), compared to 55p for a pack of 300 with exactly the same look and feel in the baby aisle (18p per 100).

Yesterday Tesco announced that in the wake of our investigation it was slashing the price of its cosmetic aisle cotton buds by more than two thirds - dropping the price from £1.50 to 40p.

Now in another victory for shoppers, Sainsbury's has followed suit, after our story yesterday highlighted an identical price discrepancy (£1.50 for a pack of 200 in the cosmetic aisle vs 55p for a pack of 300 in the baby aisle).

From tomorrow (Sat 13 May) Sainsbury's is also dropping the price of its cosmetic aisle cotton buds to 40p nationwide. A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we’re taking immediate steps to address this discrepancy."
