Mysupermarket grocery comparison site to close within days
Price comparison tool Mysupermarket is set to close this weekend, meaning shoppers will no longer be able to use its popular website and app to cut their grocery costs.
The free Mysupermarket compares prices across all major UK supermarkets, plus a few high street stores such as Boots and Poundland. It announced today it will close for good on Sunday 1 March after 14 years of operation.
MoneySavers have been using Mysupermarket for more than a decade – and it's been a favourite of MoneySavingExpert.com's in-house Deals Hunters too. We've mentioned it in several MSE guides, including Cheap Supermarket Shopping, Cheap Online Shopping and the Downshift Challenge. MSE Forumites have been discussing the site and app for years.
News of the site's closure was first shared in an email sent to registered users today by company CEO Gilad Simhony and president Amir Ofer. They said parent company Mysupermarket Business Solutions, which will continue to operate, will "shift activity toward other business areas".
Simhony and Ofer went on to thank the "tens of millions" of savvy shoppers who have used the website and app, adding: "It has been our pleasure and privilege to serve you and to share this journey with you."
What does this mean for Mysupermarket users?
While you can click through from Mysupermarket to buy your shopping from Tesco, Sainsbury's and others, the site doesn't handle any transactions itself or take any money – so there'll be no direct impact on shoppers' purchases.
However, we've already received a number of emails from Mysupermarket devotees telling us they're disappointed they'll no longer be able to use the tool.
What's the best alternative to compare grocery prices?
Sadly supermarket price comparison sites are few and far between, so unfortunately there aren't many other options. Which? does run its own supermarket analysis which compares prices on a number of products, but it's behind a paywall and we've yet to test it out.
If you've got suggestions for alternatives to Mysupermarket – and our team of Deals Hunters are really keen to find one too – let us know in the forum or in the comments below.
