Retired? Want to get paid £10k to travel the world?

Another day, another opportunity of a lifetime/PR stunt. Compare The Market is searching for someone who’s retired to go on a ‘senior gap year’, with all expenses paid up to a total of £10,000. The winner of the website’s competition will travel the world for up to 12 months, visit up to 12 destinations and be given brand-new photography equipment.

However, therein lies the catch – Aleksandr Orlov and co want their pound of flesh in return for their generosity, and they want it paid in promotion. The T&Cs reveal the winner’s required to document their trip by writing at least one 500-word blog post accompanied by five photos every month for 12 months. Presumably these are to be taken with the GoPro camera gear they’ll be given, so the victor needs to be tech-savvy.

It’s worth noting there’s no age limit on entering, but you can’t be in full-time or part-time employment or education, so you don’t actually need to be a retiree to get involved – you just need to write 200 words on why you’re the ideal candidate.

If you think it sounds too good to miss, you can enter the competition at Compare The Market before Monday 12 February. If not, you might want to check out our guides to cheap flights and cheap hotels – they won’t help you get away gratis, but they could help you save cash on travelling overseas.

At the end of last month, National Rail launched a similar competition to promote its 16-25 Railcard, with the winner and a friend (the senior gap year is a solo expedition) sent on six trips in the UK and one in Europe, with the caveat that they video each trip.
