Tesco shoppers can now get groceries delivered within 1hr from almost 100 stores across England and Wales - here's the full list

Tesco has launched a 60-minute delivery service from 96 stores across England and Wales. We've a list of participating stores below but it's still cheaper to use Tesco's standard delivery service if you don't need items urgently.

The new service, named 'Whoosh', was first trialled at one Express store in Wolverhampton in May this year. But it's now been expanded to 96 Express and Metro stores across England and Wales. Tesco says it expects to have rolled out the scheme to a total of 100 stores by the end of the year. Below we explain how it works.

See our Supermarket Shopping Tips guide for more on how to slash your shopping bills. You may also want to start thinking about booking your Christmas supermarket delivery slots now, with spots at Asda, Sainsbury's and Waitrose all still available.

How Whoosh works

Shoppers can place a 'Whoosh' delivery order either online at Tesco or via its app, with goods being delivered by bike, moped or car. Technically, there's no item limit on how much you can order but in reality the weight and size of items will be taken into account and Tesco says it will tell you when you attempt to check out if you need to remove anything. Once placed, orders can't be changed or cancelled due to the tight turnaround.

The service costs £5 for all orders over £15 and £7 for orders under £15. You can earn Clubcard points on your order and you'll also be eligible for any Clubcard discounts or promotions. You can also use your Clubcard vouchers to pay for your order.

Tesco says it will text or call you if the delivery is running late, although you should contact the supermarket's customer services team if you're unhappy with a delivery or if items are missing. If anything is damaged, you'll need to return it to any Tesco store with proof of delivery.

You can, however, save by using Tesco's standard delivery service instead, which costs between £2 and £7 per order depending on where you live and the time and day of delivery. Alternatively, you can pay £7.99/mth for Tesco's delivery saver pass, which entitles you to one standard free delivery a day so long as you spend over £40 (you can't use the delivery saver pass on Whoosh deliveries).

How other supermarkets compare

Asda and Sainsbury's also offer one-hour delivery services. Asda's costs a pricier £8.50 but with no minimum spend, while Sainsbury's is a cheaper £4.99 with a £15 minimum delivery.

Morrisons' doesn't operate its own one-hour delivery service.
