Most free drinks involve a sign-up, which usually means opting in to marketing emails, but you can always unsubscribe after you’ve claimed your freebie. Unfortunately, many aren't available in Scotland (or require a main meal to be ordered) due to alcohol promotion laws being different from the rest of the UK, but we've noted where it's the case.

Hopefully these deals will quench your thirst, but if you're also feeling a bit peckish, see our guide on How to get free (or cheap) food.

Free pub drinks 🍻🍸

Now, we're not suggesting anyone try to claim all of these (it's important to be Drinkaware), but hopefully there's at least one freebie to suit everyone – including some that offer a non-alcoholic alternative or soft drink if alcohol's not your thing.

Free coffee, tea & other hot drinks 🍵

Of course, not everyone drinks alcohol, and while some of the freebies above include a soft drink or non-alcoholic alternative, you might just prefer a nice cuppa instead. Here's our round-up of bargain brews.

  • If you download and sign up to the Greggs app, you can get a totally free regular-sized hot drink (including tea, latte, cappuccino and more) – you don't need to buy anything, this is a total freebie.

The free hot drink will appear automatically in the 'Wallet' section of the app once signed in, and you'll have 31 days to redeem it in-store.

If you give Greggs your date of birth when signing up, you'll also get a free sweet treat (such as a doughnut or cupcake) during your birthday month. See our full round-up of Birthday freebies.

  • You can get a totally free barista-made drink when you sign up to the Gail's app (available for free in the App Store or Google Play).

Once registered, you should find the free drink voucher in the 'Rewards' section of the app. Simply scan your QR code at the till, or it can be redeemed alongside an online order. You'll need to use the voucher within two months of registering (the exact expiry date will be in the app).

Barista-made drinks include coffee, tea and hot chocolate, either iced or hot.

If you give your date of birth when registering, you'll also get a voucher for your choice of either a croissant, cinnamon bun or pain aux raisins during your birthday month. See our full round-up of Birthday freebies.

  • When you shop in store at Ikea (find your nearest), you can get a free cup of tea or filter coffee (normally £1) when you swipe an Ikea Family card at the in-store restaurant. Ikea Family is its free loyalty scheme, and you can sign up online or in store.

You can get the free hot drink Monday to Friday at all stores except Hammersmith, Aberdeen Order & Collection Point and Plan & Order Points. Ikea says you'll only need one Ikea Family card to get free drinks for everyone you're with. Of course, staff may raise an eyebrow if you turn up with a coach-load all wanting the freebie.

See our Ikea MoneySaving tips for more ways to save at the big blue and yellow store.

  • If you sign up for a myWaitrose loyalty card (hit 'Join myWaitrose' after clicking through), you can get a free regular-sized tea or coffee in store every day from the self-serve machine, when you make a purchase and use your own reusable cup. You can choose from americano, cappuccino, latte or tea.

Some purchases are excluded, such as carrier bags (see 'More info' below for the full list), but a 20p banana should do it if all you're really after is a MoneySaving brew.

If you haven't got one already, you'll receive your physical myWaitrose loyalty card within five weeks of signing up via the link above. Alternatively, you can download a myWaitrose card via the app (free in the App Store or Google Play).

Simply walk in with your own reusable cup, make a purchase and swipe your card at the till – you can then go and get your free drink.

Why do I have to provide my own cup? Waitrose used to hand out disposable coffee cups for this freebie, but in 2018 it stopped this for environmental reasons (see our Waitrose ditches disposable cups MSE News story). For where else you can save with a reusable cup, see MSE Rhiannon's own-cup discounts blog.

    • It's one free drink per member, per day. Offer excludes hot chocolate, mocha and espresso and isn't valid at Costa concessions, petrol filling stations, Shell and Welcome Break. It can't be used with other cafe or hot drink offers, or the cafe loyalty card.

Qualifying purchases also exclude tobacco, stamps, mobile top ups, e-Top up vouchers, lottery tickets, gift vouchers, cashback, infant milk formulae, car park charges, fuel and delivery charges.

  • While this isn't a freebie, we still think £1 for a barista-made drink at a big coffee chain is a good deal worth sharing. If you're a Three pay monthly or pay-as-you-go mobile customer, download the Three+ app (free at the App store or Google Play) to get a barista-made hot or cold drink for £1 at Caffè Nero (find your nearest).

You can claim the £1 drink once a week on any day of the week, from café opening to close – see 'More info' below for the full list of included beverages. There's no minimum spend and this applies to any size hot or cold drink prepared by a barista (excludes bottled drinks, cartons and cans).

To get your caffeine fix for a quid, you'll need to go to the Three+ app and select the offer. This will display a QR code which you can then show at the till. A new code will be generated each week.

While prices of drinks vary on the Caffè Nero menu, some can cost up to £4.15 (for example, a frappe with cream and marshmallows), so you could save up to £3.15 with this deal.

You can't use the Caffè Nero rewards app when claiming this drink. The deal isn't valid for click and collect or delivery, and it can't be used alongside any other offer.

    • Included drinks are:

      • Coffee: latte, cappuccino, americano, flat white, espresso, cortado, iced latte, iced cappuccino, mocha, iced flat white, iced pistachio latte, frappe crème (including any seasonal varieties and all types of milk and syrups)
      • Hot chocolate
      • Teas and iced teas
      • Fruit boosters

  • If you buy a 4x400ml pack of Strongbow Tropical cider at Tesco, Asda, Co-op, Waitrose, Morrisons or Sainsbury's in England in-store or online, you can get up to £6.25 back – paid into a PayPal or bank account – via marketing platform Hashting, when you upload your receipt.

When we checked, a pack cost between £5.75 and £6 at most stores, and £7 at Sainsbury's. This means if you buy the product for £6.25 or less, the item will be completely free after cashback. If you buy it at Sainsbury's for £7 you'd only get £6.25 back.

To claim, go online to Hashting and (confusingly) you'll be sent another link to claim via WhatsApp, or if you'd prefer, sent via text message – so you'll have to give your mobile number if you don't use WhatsApp.

The offer will end at 11.59pm on Tuesday 10 October, or when 7,500 redemptions have been made, whichever's sooner – so go quick if you want it. Each household can apply for cashback once.

Hashting says you should receive your cashback within 30 days – see full T&Cs (opens as a PDF).

    Please be Drinkaware.

    • Hashting describes itself as something like an 'app-less' cashback app, as all the links and information you'll need to claim is sent to you via text message or WhatsApp, so unlike apps such as Shopmium, Topcashback, or Quidco you don't need to join up.
