Cheap phone calls

Shell Energy broadband customers who joined the provider or renewed their contract before this year will see their prices hiked from 1 September. All home phone users will also see the cost of calls made outside of their package rise - but some will be able to leave penalty-free as a result.

TalkTalk landline customers with its Unlimited UK Calls Boost plan will see their bill jump by £24 a year from January. But if you're affected, the good news is you can simply cancel the calls plan penalty-free.

Cold callers who offer to help claim compensation for mis-sold PPI or if you've been injured in an accident have been banned from contacting anyone who has not previously opted in to receiving such calls.
