Poll started 01 June 2009: Should the Royal Mail be part-privatised? The government remains resolute in plans to sell off up to 49% of the Royal Mail to private bidders. While part-privatisation will raise money for the public purse, there's many arguments for and against... FOR: Personal post now accounts for just 14% of snail-mail anyway (thanks to the web). The pension fund deficit's weighing RM down. It could help maintain daily deliveries. AGAINST: It could mean thousands of redundancies and higher prices. Standards may fall and (less profitable) personal mail may be deprioritised. The RM dates back to 1516, so it's part of our heritage. Should part-privatisation go ahead? Which of the following is nearest your answer?

Poll Started 18 May 2009: What should we pay our MPs? Unless you’ve recently been living under a rock, you can't have missed the MP expenses scandal. One argument put forward is MPs aren't paid a wage equivalent to the calibre of people we want to attract. So forget vitriol for the current lot, which of these is nearest what we should pay our MPs? Assume there’ll also be legit expenses for office staffing and extra living allowance for those with distant constituencies. Apologies for any salary inaccuracies below, they're from reliable web sources but of course specifc cases vary widely.

Thanks to forum users for the new batch of suggestions below. Which sticker slogan do you prefer? Envisage it on a car in front of you. (all would of course say MoneySavingExpert.com on the bottom)

Poll Started 27 April 2009: Should high earners pay 50% tax? Last week in the budget, the Chancellor announced from next April there’s a new 50p per pound rate for those earning over £150,000. Plus high earners will lose the tax-free personal allowance and higher rate pension tax relief. Arguments for include. The govt needs the money. Those who can afford it should pay. Arguments against include. Worries it won’t raise revenue due to avoidance, a brain drain, or discouraging enterprise. Which of these is nearest your view?

Poll Started 14 April 2009: How many hours do you work? An EU Parliament vote means the UK’s current opt-out from maximum working week laws is likely to be scrapped in 2011. This means it’ll be legally impossible to exceed 48hrs of work per week, regardless of the job you do. I thought it’d be interesting to see how many MoneySavers this change would impact, by asking... In a typical week, how many hours do you work for paid employment? If you have more than one job, combine the hours for each together. If there’s no such thing as a typical week, average it out.

Poll Started 06 April 2009: Over the last year according to Nationwide house prices have dropped 15.7% while Halifax says 17.5%. Yet in the last month Nationwide has reported a rise of 0.9%, compared to Halifax's 1.9% drop. Sentiment is a crucial part of house prices e.g. when people think they’ll drop, many hold off from buying, meaning less demand and prices do drop. So what do you think will happen to UK house prices over the next 12 months?
