Deborah's experience

Deborah is MSE's Deals & Features Editor, and is part of the senior leadership team. She previously worked in law, firstly in criminal defence, then moving on to the legal side of children's book publishing. But that was all a lifetime ago, as she is now one of the longest standing members of the MSE editorial team, having celebrated her 15-year work anniversary.

A little more about Deborah

Deborah is a mum of two girls and a slave to a large Persian cat called Paddy Pom-Pom. When she's not running around after two under-10s, she likes going to the theatre, gigs and playing tennis with her husband (who is now annoyingly better than her, after SHE introduced him to the sport). If she wasn't an editor at MSE, she would retrain to be a sommelier and turn a weekend love of fine wine and travel into a career.

Deborah says...

"I am extremely proud of the work we do here at MSE. When I first started, my subject matter of MoneySaving was fun – all the discounts were on shopping or 2for1 meals out or hacks to nab freebies. But as the world changed, so did the content that my team wrote.

"During the pandemic, we helped you get the cheapest legitimate Covid tests when they were mandatory for travel. We helped you learn a new skill online if you were stuck indoors alone, and we even showed you how to cut your own hair when all the hairdressers were shut. And now, in the middle of a cost of living crisis, we're showing you where to find free food if you're struggling, helping you resell old items if you need the extra cash, and guiding you on how to 'heat the human, not the home' in the colder months.

"I've always been proud to work at MSE, and say I work with Martin Lewis, but none so much as in recent years, where I feel our work here is making a vital, everyday difference to people's lives."

tap water rights
We've always said there's no shame in asking for a glass of tap water when out for a meal to keep the bill down. But while that's absolutely right, the rules are a bit more confusing than people think, so we've got a tap water Q&A.
