Emily has over six years of experience in journalism, starting her career as a local news reporter in 2018 before joining MSE in May 2021. She has tackled a range of critical topics at MSE, including consumer rights, energy, debt, and financial regulation.

Some of Emily's biggest stories include Ryanair's barring of customers who received Covid refunds, the shutdown of tax rebate firm Tax Credits Ltd for forgery, and discrepancies in the Warm Home Discount scheme. These stories have been covered by some of the UK's biggest newspaper outlets, including the Daily Mirror, the Daily Express, The Sun and The Guardian.

Emily has earned several award wins and nominations, including winning the Rising Star of the Year Award at the Headline Money Awards in 2023 and being shortlisted for the Wincott Foundation's Personal Finance Journalist of the Year Award alongside MSE founder Martin Lewis. In 2022, she also won an MHP's 30Under30 Young Journalist Award in the Personal Finance category.

Outside of journalism, Emily is passionate about writing plays and short fiction, and enjoys hiking, running, and reading.

Campaigners who launched legal action against Google over claims the tech giant secretly tracked the internet activity of millions of iPhone users have today lost their class action case. If the legal challenge had been successful, millions of iPhone users may have been awarded £750 each. But the Supreme Court's decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Around 460,000 (23% of) motorists could have saved a collective £2.3 million by renewing their driving licence online between April 2020 and March 2021, instead of by post, according to new figures from the DVLA. Meanwhile, an unknown number of other drivers could have saved by avoiding the Post Office's renewal service.

The Bank of England base rate will remain at 0.1% after the majority of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) - at seven versus two - today voted in favour of maintaining the rate. The base rate is used by the Bank to charge other banks and lenders when they borrow money – and influences what borrowers pay and savers earn.

Mortgage rates could dramatically rise after new forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) show the Bank of England's base rate could rise to 3.5%. This could mean an end to record low mortgage rates, so it's worth checking now if you can lock in to save £1,000s.

The national minimum wage paid to workers aged 23 and over will rise from £8.91/hr to £9.50/hr from 1 April, the Government has announced. This represents an increase of 59p, and an extra £1,000/yr if you work full-time. The national minimum wage for workers aged under 23 and apprentices will also rise.
