Archive: MoneySavingExpert's Money Tips Email
The following is the text of Martin's Money Tip Email sent out on 10th June 2003
An independent, consumer help email from www.moneysavingexpert.com
Something a bit different this time – rather than the normal big tips – a selection of quick and easys for you.
Stamps: Safeway has a 10% in-store discount on first and second-class stamps for the rest of this week. As stamps are worth their face value and don't date – go along and snap up as many as you need for the year. Stamps are rarely discounted
Harry Potter: If you're buying or pre-ordering the Harry Potter book then www.tesco.co.uk is the cheapest place to order it at just over £10 including delivery – six pounds less than face value. To find this, as always I used internet shopping robots click here for more details.
Woolwich Off-set Open Plan Holders: If you have a Woolwich off-set open plan then you can now get a special Barclaycard with a nearly 90 day interest free period – snap it up – it's a 0% three month rolling credit card offer.
Chat board tips: After the success of pointing out some good chat board tips last time on prescriptions and 0870 numbers, there's a nice new one with good tips and discussion on roadside assistance – click here
How to play Healthcare cash back schemes: In my view this is the best ‘I've never heard of them' consumer finance product around. The top scheme used properly for a family can pay back every year seven times what they cost. I've just written a full article on how to max your gains – click here to read.
New telephone tariffs heads up: BT changed its tariffs on the 1st of June and most other providers quickly followed suit. I've spent the last 5 days slaving over a spreadsheet comparing over 100 providers to cut through the flannel and find the new cheapest. I've a full two pages on it in Sunday's Express and it'll be on the site in full detail on Monday. The savings are huge, do have a look and tell your friends.
Martin's Money Poser 6: A simple question this time – how many times can you fold a £20 note. Click here to answer. PS if you fancy a try at creative writing why not add onto the ‘diary of a money saving extremist' just click here to see.
Want to ask a question? Click here to post it on the chat board, please don't ask by e-mail.
Personal Note from Martin: This week the 15,000th member signed up for this email – amazing! The site is really developing and I wanted to say thank you. The more of us we are the less people are getting screwed as providers realise consumers just won't take it any more. If you have two minutes please send a bulk email to your friends recommending they come along and sign up or click here an automated recommend a friend feature.
Apology from Martin: As a quick note from me, unfortunately I've got a terrible case of RSI at the moment which makes typing very painful, so I cant answer many questions on the Chat site. Thankfully there are lots of regular Money Savers with incisive answers who can help – it's a great community – so do continue to post your questions.
