Hiya folks. Do check out the top mobile deal, it's a cracker. And welcome to all the new recipients (there's a special note below for you), 6,000 since the last week…. WOW!
Mobile calls at landline prices – fully updated sneaky deal.
There's a way to pay landline call costs on your existing mobile phone, cutting the bill by up to 80%. You can also use it to utilise ‘free mobile minutes' off some networks to make free international calls. Full articleA new ‘Never, ever, ever, ever!'
(well it seems it's my catch-phrase). Chip'n'pin is starting, this means when you buy on debit or credit cards, rather than signing for it you'll need to enter a pin number. One consequence is many of us will know our credit card pin numbers for the first time, tempting us into withdrawing cash on them. Never, ever, ever do that – there's a host of hidden charges. More info & a full guide to Chip'n'Pin or Discuss thisAnother new best buy savings account, 4.85%:
Rather bizarrely, mortgage broker London & Country has launched an easy access telephone based savings account paying an introductory 4.85% for six months, beating the 4.8% in the last tip. Full details.Try Me Free:

Did you know?
Authorising a regular payment off a credit card (called a ‘Continuous Payment Authority') is much more dangerous a bank account ‘direct debit'. The problem is you can't cancel it, only the company its set up with can. The major, but not exclusive, culprit of such dodgy dealings are internet porn sites leaving people taking ‘embarrassed' monthly payments. Always make sure any CPA is set up with a legit company, and try to use direct debts not credit cards. Read an article on it. (based on an old report I did for R4 Moneybox) Discuss it.Special Note for new e-mail recipients.

You may remember…
A few month's ago, I dedicated the tips e-mail to MoneySaver Don, who tragically lost his little girl when she was just 50 days old and wanted London Marathon sponsorship to raise money for the ‘Foundation for Study of Infants Deaths' who'd helped them through. I asked if the e-mail saved you money, it'd be great if you sponsored him £1 (or more). Well he's done it and over £1,600 was raised. Read his result and thanks. (and also you can still donate)Martin's Money Poser – a non notable note:
Not a riddle this week, but a question. What is the lowest value note currently in general usage in any country in the world? Answer or read others' answers. Past Money Posers, The Money Diet Question, Billy the Cad, what are X & Y?, stick or switch and where's the other pound?A personal note - thank you!
It's been a great week, record numbers of people joined the e-mail (now over 80,000 receive it) and my book the Money Diet got to number 4 in the Times Bestsellers list (non-fiction). This is a major ambition achieved for me, thank you so much to everyone who bought it, without your support, I'd never have got there. As always please tell everyone you know about the site and joining up to the e-mail. Hopefully we'll hit 100,000 soon and then the banks & others will really start to tremble.
I hope you save some money
Martin
