Hello again.  I'm nervously counting the days to the 100,000th person to sign up to this e-mail – as I write there are 99,543.  My fingers are crossed by the next Money Tip I'll have cracked open the MoneySaving bubbly – and to be fair I'll send a bottle to whomever it is too!

PLAY THE SYSTEM TO GET A SHORT TERM LOAN AT 0% (NEW ARTICLE) For a cash loan over a short period (under a year), simple manipulation of the system will make it completely interest free.  Rock on!  New Article: Short term 0% loan

DVD RECORDER £120: The predicted price plummet of DVD recorders is finally happening.  Of course it's not high spec, but at this price ditching VHS and recording in quality is now a real option and for £40ish you can really up-spec.  £120 DVD Recorder Chat Forum Discussion

MONEYSAVING IN THE £100,000s:  Inheritance tax is boring, but as the cost is often measured in £100,000s, I've drafted a new article which give you a 5 minute inheritance tax health check, so you (or your parents) don't unnecessarily give Mr. Brown a lifetime's accumulated cash.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK!  VOICEMAIL IS FROM MONEYSAVING HELL.  Ever wondered why voicemail is offered free and freely these days? Simple, it means no more engaged tones or unanswered calls so every time you pick up the phone, it connects through, and the phone companies get to charge you, racking up their profits.  There's no real solution, just ensure your phone provider has low minimum call charge & cancel voicemail on your mobile when abroad, or the roaming charge massively racks up.  Discuss voicemail profitability

DON'T WORRY, BE ABBEY.  My in-box has been jammed with Abbey customers' worries about the proposed takeover.  So here are some ultra-brief answers.  No, customers won't get a windfall. Yes, your money will be just as safe.  No, don't withdraw money just because of the takeover (but if your products are pants, do it anyway).  As for the long term impact, a new owner with more cash looking to be competitive can be good news for customers.  Discuss the Abbey situation.

CUT DEBT COSTS WITHOUT NEW CREDIT.  Remember there is a way to cut your interest costs even if you get rejected for new credit. Read the credit card shuffle.

BARCLAYCARD – PALTRY CREDIT LIMITS:  People are reporting disappointingly low credit limits from Barclaycard's new table topping offer - read Barclaycard article or low credit limit discussion.  For alternatives read my Best Balance Transfers (note MBNA o ften gives generous credit limits) and Best Purchase Card articles.  Do be careful though, only ever borrow what you planned to, and what you can afford to pay back.

That's it for this week.  I'm just finishing a full piece on the best graduate accounts, so if you know anyone who has graduated in the last three years give ‘em a nudge, it'll be on the site Sunday.  Plus I'm in the middle of doing my research into the cheapest broadband provider – and I've already found a cracking loophole – I'll put it all together in a week or so.

I hope you save some money
