The following is the text of Martins Money Tips Email sent on 9 March 2005 Burp! Well it is Comic Relief week and m'nose is already on (see the site!), plus m'pledge is below. If you're donating, do tick the Gift Aid box, so they get more and you pay the same (see charity tax article). M'COMIC RELIEF PLEDGE 50p donated per new genuine person on this free e-mail list until midnight Sunday. Pls suggest your friends/family join up (go to Money Tips). This pledge (capped at 10,000 people so I don't cripple the site) is based on the hungersite's logic. It's win-win-win, helping people save money, helping the site and, best of all helping Comic Relief. How can a non-profit driven site afford to do this? Read ‘how the site generates revenue'. CHEAPEST DIRECTORY ENQUIRIES. Includes a 'call for free' loophole. The winner, 118848, costs a flat rate 27p for three enquiries. The article explains why this cheapest number is never publicised, how to get free online enquiries, and a loophole for free enquiry calls. New Article. Directory Enquiries. Related Articles. Saynoto0870, Cheapest UK calls provider. ONLY 3.9% LIFE OF BALANCE CARD ENDING? I've heard unconfirmed insider rumours the Texaco credit card's status is being reviewed and the deal may be dropped. This card is a powerhouse. It offers 3.9% interest, if you switch debt to it, and the rate lasts until the card's paid off. If you may need to transfer a balance, do it asap. Read relevant articles. Balance Transfers, Half Price Plastic Personal Loans. GREAT SPRUCE UP YOUR HOME HUNT. Property programmes drone on about things that "increase your home's value", but what about for people who just want to live there? This hunt's to find cheap and easy ways to make your house a home. I'm tapping MoneySavers collective knowledge of useful tips. Add yours or read others here. Past Hunts. Disguised Own-brand, Factory Shops. Related Tip. Free info on what your neighbour's home sold for.
A Broadband or Dial-Up (low quality) raw commentary on this tip (discuss) Streams via Media or RealPlayer, for help read this NOW I'M MUTTERING ABOUT ARTICLES. M'mutterings (audio commentary) on the tip have been so popular I've done article mutterings too in Best Balance Transfers, Directory Enquiries and Cutting edge internet Shopping. More to come - I'll let you know each week. CAR AND HOME INSURANCE SPRING CLEANING. Don't just auto-renew your insurance, read the Car and Home Insurance cost-cutting articles to ensure you're getting the best deal. KNOW SOMEONE WANTING/NEEDING A TV MONEYSAVING MAKEOVER? More info. One-Tel's Feb deal for ''free evening and weekend calls' for free has been extended. Read a full how to work this for maximum benefit. FLIGHTCHECKER SALES WATCH! Cheap regional airport flights. Flybe's got a big ad push this week offering April/May flights from £14 to £30 one way. It's strength is the number of UK airports it flies from; Liverpool, Exeter, Southampton, Belfast, Norwich & Newcastle among others. Use the free FlightChecker to home in on these sales flights (and others). BOARD OF THE WEEK! House-buying and selling board. From estate agents' fees to bartering with a house builder. If you're considering moving and have unanswered questions this is a good place to start, with such animated discussions as Where to buy in London?, House prices set to crash, House prices set to rise. SHOCK HORROR! Mother worrying about son starting university! OK it's as surprising as finding E numbers in a packet of crisps but her question's sparked countless responses. While it's not strictly MoneySaving, it's organically grown into a great 'Starting Uni Frequently Asked Questions'. Andrea's Freebies (also see Freebies GOLD)NEWBIES. DID YOU KNOW THERE'S A MONEYSAVING BOOK? It's called the Money Diet and it's designed to compliment the site. As well as a product by product work-out it goes into training your MoneySaving muscles. (Well I am allowed a plug once in a while). More info, Compare online prices, Discuss where to buy it cheapest. Fixodent sample, Elemis skin care samples NAME AND SHAME! Restaurant service charges. I asked a waitress this week how much of the 12.5% automatic service charge went to her; she said half is divided amongst the waiters, the rest to the restaurant. What a disgrace! When we tip, it's for the staff, not the management. As is a legal right, I refused to pay the service charge and tipped the waitress the same in cash. I suggest we all do it. More info and discuss. NEW MARTIN'S CHAMPAGNE MONEY POSER. CAESAR'S SOLUTION. Another champagne money poser but the question's too long to put here so please see Caesar's Solution. The last two money posers Time for Change and Black and White Poser have now been solved (see the answers there). NEW POLL. How much did Sudan 1 cost you? Vote or discuss. Also, see last week's Can you trust your child? Poll results. That's it for this week. Next week it's the Budget. It's likely petrol prices, cigarettes and booze will all rise (at least with inflation). Petrol prices rise on the day, so do fill up before. The price of alcohol and fags tends to rise as shops restock, so buying sooner rather than later is usually a good idea. And if you're watching the Budget, I'm part of ITV1's live coverage so do tune in. That really really is it now, do please forward the e-mail to everyone you know and get them to sign up, both because more MoneySavers means more Consumer Revenge and because this week it'll help Comic Relief too.
