Triumphant news! Hiya, a few months ago I wrote about a loophole in a Barclays promotion offering £100 sign-up bonus on a dismal current account. It explained how to grab the cash without using the account. Thousands did and woohoo, the free £100s are now being paid out. Barclays swiftly closed the loophole within 36 hours after I published it in this email. New best lend for spend: 10 month 0% on purchases Updated Article
Sainsbury's Visa* has overtaken Skycard as top 0% card, spend on it and you won't pay interest for 10 months. Yet remember; switch it to a cheap balance transfer card at the end of that time if you haven't paid it all off or use a 'stable relationship card' instead (see article). If you do pay off your card in full every month, then interest is irrelevant so use a cashback card. Tesco is currently selling the 512mb Ipod Shuffle digital music player in all its Extra stores (and some superstores) for £49, a couple of quid cheaper than most other places. Now's the time to switch energy provider. Though as there's no guarantee your new supplier won't increase its prices. I've listed when each company last raised prices in the article. To find the cheapest, use either comparison service Energyhelpline*, which pays £12.50 cashback if it switches you, or Uswitch* which has extended its offer of a bottle of Piper Heidsieck champagne, worth approx £20. My in-box was swamped questioning one of the freebies in last week's article. Let me clear it up. Q. Why doesn't the BMI card* link mention the 20,000 free miles? A. Simply as its site hasn't been updated yet. Don't worry though, you're definitely due the free miles. Q. BMI doesn't fly to Turkey or Russia? A. True, but the free miles allow flights on any Star Alliance airline and are enough to get you a return to both these countries and more (see destinations list). If you need to borrow a lump sum, Direct Line's* online (not phone) loan has overtaken all others at 5.6% for loans over £5K. If you're borrowing less Moneyback Loans* is top at 5.7%. Both are typical rate, meaning you won't necessarily get the rate offered even if accepted.
