Baking logoBaking round-up, incl 85p non-stick tin*Best deals on tools, pans, decorations and books

Ongoing

If you're anxiously anticipating the next episode of the new series of Great British Bake Off and want to pick up a few baking bits and bobs on the cheap, we're serving up a round-up of some of the strongest deals out there.

Tools, decorations and books

Wilko (find your nearest) has a cheap and cheerful everyday value range, but stock is limited - so go quick if you want something. Items include:

Delivery is £3.50 or you can collect from a store for free.

Aldi has a few baking items online and in store (find your nearest). It started on Sun 14 Aug and some of them have already sold out online, so you'll need to be quick to bag a baking bargain. Items include:

  • £3.49 Mary Berry's How to Cook book. Next cheapest we found, £10.94 delivered from The Book People.
  • £7.99 checkerboard baking tray set, incl three 23cm baking pans and plastic mold. Next cheapest similar we found, £10 at Hobbycraft.
  • £7.99 surprise cake pan set, incl 22cm baking pan and plastic mold. Next cheapest similar we found, £19.99 at Lakeland.

The Works* has a selection of baking and cookbooks at reduced prices. Some examples we found on Tue 23 Aug include:

Jane Asher products for £1

Actress-turned-baking entrepreneur Jane Asher has a range of baking items in store at Poundland (find your nearest). These include:

Stand mixers

The use of the Kenwood KMix mixer by contestants in the last series caused a bit of a stir, with Bake Off fans favouring the KitchenAid mixer used in previous series. It's back again this year, but whatever your preference, we've found the best prices on a mixer for every budget:

  • £50 stand mixer* at Wilko (delivery's £4 but you can click & collect in store for free). Our MSE forumites were big fans of a similar mixer when it went down to £80 (from £100) in 2013 and rate its performance. This mixer is brand new, so there's no reviews yet but at half the price of Wilko's previous offering it's worth a look.
  • £240 KMix* (cream) at Debenhams with free delivery. Next cheapest we found, £249.99 at Robert Dyas (in cream*), delivery's £3.95 or you can click and collect in store for free.
  • £299 Kitchen Aid* at Argos (delivery's £3.95 or you can collect from a store for free). Next cheapest we found, £319 at Tesco (delivery's £3 or you can collect from a store for free).

Until 9pm on Wed 31 Aug, we’ve also an MSE Blagged Morphy Richards 20% off code valid on everything it sells online, including items already reduced in its sale (eg, £100 stand mixer £44).

Argos logoArgos eBay outlet*New & refurbished gadgets, electronics, toys and more

Ongoing

Some clearance stock can be cheaper in store but the range on Argos's eBay outlet* makes it worth a look.

Most products it sells are new, and where items are refurbished, they're clearly noted. It's also worth checking Argos's in-store clearance finder* which allows you to find bargains available in store.

Argos logoArgos: MoneySaving tips & tricks*Incl free Click & Collect, haggling & clearance

Ongoing

There are always ways to save money at Argos*, so even if there isn't a cracking discount code or sale out there that works for you, don't assume you can't cut your costs further.

Ways to save money at Argos include:

  • Free Check & Reserve. This allows you to save on delivery costs by reserving an item online and collecting it from an Argos store (find your nearest*). Of course, this will depend on your local store having your item in stock.

  • Try haggling. We polled 1,400 MoneySavers to find out in which shops they had most success haggling, and 17% said they'd managed to blag a discount at Argos - so it's probably worth a try if you're brave enough. Read our Haggle on the High Street guide for more haggling tips.

  • 'Free' Argos vouchers. Argos regularly does an offer where you can get a 'free' £5 voucher when you spend £50, or a £10 voucher when you spend £100, to use on your next Argos visit.

  • Check the online offers page. The Argos offers page* lists current deals from all sections of the site.

  • Check out similar retailers, eg, Amazon and Tesco Direct. If you're not committed to buying from Argos, check out our deals from other places such as AmazonJohn Lewis and Tesco Direct, where there may be a better offer.

  • Had a problem with Argos? There’s a free online tool you can use to complain – it helps draft, manage and if necessary escalate your complaint. It’s offered by a firm called Resolver, which we like so much we work with it to help people get complaints justice – you can use it to complain to Argos*.

If you spot any hot deals out there we have missed (we are human after all!), please let us know on Twitter @MSE_Deals or by emailing us at msedeals@moneysavingexpert.com.

Section 75

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.

If a link has a * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment or benefit to the site.

You shouldn't notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links. We aim to look at all available products. If it isn't possible to get an affiliate link for the top deal, it is still included in exactly the same way, just with a non-paying link.
