Some clearance stock can be cheaper in store but the range on Argos's eBay outlet* makes it worth a look.

Most products it sells are new, and where items are refurbished, they're clearly noted. It's also worth checking Argos's in-store clearance finder* which allows you to find bargains available in store.

Argos logoArgos: MoneySaving tips & tricks*Incl free Click & Collect, haggling & clearance

Ongoing

There are always ways to save money at Argos*, so even if there isn't a cracking discount code or sale out there that works for you, don't assume you can't cut your costs further.

Ways to save money at Argos include:

  • Free Check & Reserve. This allows you to save on delivery costs by reserving an item online and collecting it from an Argos store (find your nearest*). Of course, this will depend on your local store having your item in stock.

  • Try haggling. We polled 1,400 MoneySavers to find out in which shops they had most success haggling, and 17% said they'd managed to blag a discount at Argos - so it's probably worth a try if you're brave enough. Read our Haggle on the High Street guide for more haggling tips.

  • 'Free' Argos vouchers. Argos regularly does an offer where you can get a 'free' £5 voucher when you spend £50, or a £10 voucher when you spend £100, to use on your next Argos visit.

  • Check the online offers page. The Argos offers page* lists current deals from all sections of the site.

  • Check out similar retailers, eg, Amazon and Tesco Direct. If you're not committed to buying from Argos, check out our deals from other places such as AmazonJohn Lewis and Tesco Direct, where there may be a better offer.

  • Had a problem with Argos? There’s a free online tool you can use to complain – it helps draft, manage and if necessary escalate your complaint. It’s offered by a firm called Resolver, which we like so much we work with it to help people get complaints justice – you can use it to complain to Argos*.

If you spot any hot deals out there we have missed (we are human after all!), please let us know on Twitter @MSE_Deals or by emailing us at msedeals@moneysavingexpert.com.

Expired Deals

Argos logoArgos 3for2 on Christmas decorations*Incl trees & lights. Automatic discount in store & online

Expired

There's a 3for2 offer on Christmas trees, lights and decorations at Argos* - so buy three items and the cheapest's free - in store and online until 11.59pm on Thu 17 Nov. It's an automatic discount on everything via the link above and clearly marked in stores. Delivery's £3.95 or you can collect in store for free.

Argos says over 300 items are included in the offer. These include a range of tree lights, outdoor lights, baubles, wreaths, garlands and artificial Christmas trees.

How does it work?

The cheapest item is free, so if you're just buying three items, you can only save as much as the lowest-priced item on your receipt is worth. For example, buy three items at £50 each and you'll pay £100 in total (saving £50).

On the other hand, buy two trees at £50 each and a cheaper decoration at £5 and you still pay £100 but you only save a fiver. So to really make the most of the offer, see if you can perhaps club together with friends and family to buy expensive items (eg, trees) in a shared transaction.

Expired

If you spend £50-£99 online at Argos* by Thu 17 Nov, you should receive a code in your confirmation email for £5 off your next purchase with no minimum spend. If you spend £100+ you'll get a code for £10 off your next purchase. Once received, you have until Thu 15 Dec to use the code.

Delivery's £3.95 (incl 'Fast Track' next day delivery), or you can reserve online and collect from a store for free. If using the reserve and collect option, you'll need to have picked up and paid for your item(s) by Thu 17 Nov, and on collection you'll be given a voucher to spend in store by Thu 15 Dec.

Alternatively, you could simply walk into a store and purchase by Thu 17 Nov to receive an in-store voucher along with your receipt. Again, you'll have until Thu 15 Dec to spend your voucher and there's no minimum spend on this second purchase.

The only items excluded from both the qualifying spend and the purchase with the voucher are gift cards, e-Top ups and iTunes vouchers. See full T&Cs*.

MSE Sarah G says:

To get the most out of this offer, look at how much you're spending and consider whether it can be divided into multiple transactions. For example, buy two pieces of furniture for £100+ each and you'll come away with a £10 voucher...buy them separately and you'll get two £10 vouchers.

Argos logoArgos 3for2 on 3,000+ toys*Automatic discount in store & online, incl bikes, Barbie, Lego

Expired

This is one of the BIG ones MoneySavers wait for each year, as it's great for stocking up for Christmas.

There's a huge 3for2 offer on 3,000+ toys at Argos* - so buy three toys and the cheapest's free - in stores and online until 11.59pm on Tue 27 Sep. It's an automatic discount on everything via the link above and clearly marked in stores. Delivery's £3.95.

Argos says all its top-selling toy brands are included (eg, Barbie, Lego, Leap Frog, Nerf), as well as selected kids' bikes (up to 20in wheels). Video games and consoles won't be included.

How does it work?

The cheapest item is free, so if you're just buying three items, you can only save as much as the lowest-priced item on your receipt is worth. For example, buy three toys at £50 each and pay £100 in total (saving £50).

On the other hand, buy two toys at £50 each and a cheaper toy at £5 and you still pay £100 but you only save a fiver. So to really make the most of the offer, see if you can perhaps club together with other parents to buy expensive presents (eg, bikes) in a shared transaction.

Section 75

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.

You shouldn't notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links.
