Argos logoArgos £5 off via Barnardo's toy exchange*Donate a toy, get £5 off £35 voucher for 'toys and games'

43 days left

Take an unwanted toy to your nearest Argos* or Barnardo's shop by Fri 20 Nov and you'll receive a £5 off voucher to use when you spend £35 or more on items in the 'toys and games' section. You don't have to spend it right away, but the voucher will expire on Christmas Eve (Thu 24 Dec).

All donated toys will be passed on by Argos for the children's charity Barnardo's to sell in its shops. While they don't need to be in mint condition, they must at least be "saleable" and of course, the better the condition, the more the charity stands to benefit as it can charge a higher price.

You can't get the discount when you buy online, but you can reserve items online and get the discount when you pay in store. It's one voucher per donation (not per toy) and the voucher can't be used with other offers, eg, two for £15.

For more information on how it works, see Argos Toy Exchange*.

Argos logoArgos: MoneySaving tips & tricks*Incl free Click & Collect, haggling & clearance

There are always ways you can save money at Argos*, so don't assume you can't cut your costs even if there are no stonking Argos discount codes or sales around that work for you.

Ways to save money at Argos include:

  • Free check & reserve. This allows you to save on delivery costs by reserving an item online and collecting it from an Argos store (find your nearest*). Of course, this will depend on your local store having your item in stock.
  • Try haggling. We polled 2,518 MoneySavers to see in which shops they had most success haggling, and 20% said they'd managed to blag a discount at Argos - so it's probably worth a try if you're brave enough. Read our Haggle on the High Street guide for more haggling tips.
  • 'Free' Argos vouchers. Argos regularly does an offer where you can get a 'free' £5 voucher when you spend £50, or a £10 voucher when you spend £100, to use on your next Argos visit.
  • Check the online offers page. The Argos offers page* lists current deals from all sections of the site.
  • Check out similar retailers, eg, Amazon, Tesco Direct. If you're not committed to buying from Argos, check out our deals from other places such as AmazonJohn Lewis and Tesco Direct, where you may find there's a better offer.

If you spot any hot deals out there we have missed (we are human after all!), please let us know in the MSE Forum, email us at or via Twitter @MSE_Deals.

Argos logoArgos 3for2 on ALL toys*Online & in stores from Wed - incl Barbie, Lego, bikes & more

There's currently a massive 3for2 sale on all toys at Argos* - so buy any three toys and get the cheapest for free (or more toys, in multiples of three, and get the cheapest few items for free). It's running in stores and online until 11.59pm on Tue 29 Sep and it's an automatic discount. Delivery's £3.95.

This is one of the BIG ones MoneySavers wait for each year, as it's great for stocking up on items for Christmas. Argos says everything in the toys department is included. This means everything from Lego sets to Leap Frog tablets, Star Wars figures, Barbie dolls and kids' bikes (up to 20in wheels).

Even toys already reduced in the clearance* are in it, but video games and consoles aren't included.

How does it work?

The cheapest item's free, so you can only save as much as the lowest-priced item on your receipt is worth. For example, buy three kids' bikes at £100 each and pay £200 in total (saving £100).

On the other hand, buy two bikes at £100 each and a cheaper toy at £5 and you still pay £200 but you only save a fiver. So to really make the most of this offer, ask around the playground and club together with other parents to buy your expensive presents together.

Will it come round again before Christmas?

We don't know, but if previous years are anything to go by (and if Argos is recycling its promotional calendar from 2014), it's likely we'll see the same 3for2 deal for a second time in November. Of course, there's no guarantee of this and Argos won't confirm it until much nearer the time.

However, it's worth keeping an eye on some other shops as well - it isn't just Argos that repeats its toy sale every year. Boots normally does a 3for2 on toys in the run-up to Christmas (though it doesn't have as wide a range as Argos) and Sainsbury's has a 25% off toys, usually towards the end of October.

None can be guaranteed, so if you're after things for Christmas and can afford to buy now, buy now. Or if you think buying later will work better for you, then wait - just bear in mind the second chance isn't guaranteed and sometimes a bird in the hand's worth two in the bush.

Can't be combined with other offers (eg, two for £15, three for £10).

Argos logoArgos £5 off £35 toy exchange*Take in toy, get £5 off £35 in-store toy voucher

Take an unwanted toy to your nearest Argos or Barnardo’s shop by Tue 25 Nov and you'll receive a £5 off £35 toys voucher, to spend on items in the 'toys and games' section till Christmas Eve. Argos will then donate your unwanted toy(s) to Barnardo's shops for the children’s charity to sell on.

You can't get the discount when you buy online, but you can reserve your item(s) online and then get the discount when you pay in-store.

The toy you donate doesn't have to have been bought from Argos, but Argos has told us it needs to be in a "saleable condition". Barnardo's also says on its website that it will "accept any toy in any condition, although the better the condition, the most funds it can raise towards Barnardo’s vital work." One voucher per donation (not per toy).

For more information on the scheme please see the campaign page.

Can't be used on multi-buy promotions, such as 3for2s.

Argos logoArgos 3for2 on toysOnline & in-store from Wed 24 Sep

Details are sketchy, but we wanted to let you know about this deal in the weekly email, so here goes - it looks like the big Argos* 3for2 toy sale is on from Wed 23 Sep - Fri 3 Oct.

Argos hasn't confirmed this with us, so we've done some digging and it sounds like all toys under the 'toy heading' banner are included, but video games consoles, video games and bikes over 20 inches in wheel size are excluded. Some small bikes and scooters are included - we'll add the best bargains here when we know more.

It's great for stocking up the Christmas cupboard for kids' presents. The 3for2 deal can't be used with other offers, but it is valid on sale items.

Video games consoles and video games are excluded because they come under consoles, not toys.

Argos logo3for2 on toys at Argos*4,500 toy lines included

From Wed 25 Sep to Tue 1 Oct, Argos* is running its highly anticipated 3for2 toy sale online and in-store. Great if you're buying now and planning for Christmas, as this will be one of the last opportunities to get the 3for2 offer before the big day.

Barbie, Disney, Lego, Moshi Monsters, Play-Doh, Leap Frog and many more are available, but Argos confirms nursery monitors, highchairs, pushchairs and car seats aren't included. Other children's product ranges such as sleeping bags, video games, clothing, watches and clocks, bedding and DVDs are also not included.

If you've found any great bargains in the sale, we'd love to hear about them. Let us know in the Argos toy sale discussion thread.

The cheapest item is free and subject to availability. The offer is not available with any other offers (e.g. the two for £15 promotions).

Section 75

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.

If a link has a * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment or benefit to the site.

You shouldn't notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links. We aim to look at all available products. If it isn't possible to get an affiliate link for the top deal, it is still included in exactly the same way, just with a non-paying link.
