WHSmith logo£1 WHSmith meal dealEvery Monday via app. Sandwich, snack & drink

Ongoing

Smartphone users can get a £1 WHSmith meal deal every Monday from 11am to 3pm via the O2 Priority app. Simply show the code from the app to staff at the checkout.

This could work out as a great alternative if you're missing the £1 Boots meal deal through O2, which was axed from Mon 20 Feb. It also offers £1 meal deals at Domino’s Pizza, Upper Crust, Pumpkin and Ritazza.

The £1 WHSmith meal deal is normally £3.99 and includes:

  • One main, eg, sandwich (norm up to £3.30ish each).
  • One snack, eg, crisps (norm up to £1.20ish).
  • One drink, eg, smoothie (360ml, norm up to £3.29ish).

Prices may vary in every store, but at the WHSmith nearest MSE Towers, we picked up a Falafel & houmous sandwich, Walkers grab bag crisps and an Innocent fruit smoothie. Individually it would cost £7.64, or £3.99 in the normal WHSmith meal deal, so £1 for the lot is a cracking saving.

How to get it

If you're on O2 and you haven't got the app already, you can download it for free from Apple's App StoreGoogle Play for Android or Microsoft's Windows store. Open the app, search for 'WHSmith' and the offer should appear.

Once you redeem the offer, it'll give you a unique code which you need to show on your smartphone in store at WHSmith. The deal will only appear on your app on Mondays, so you will not see it on any other days.

Warning: If you click accept you'll only have TWO minutes to redeem the offer, so make sure staff at the checkout are ready and know how to accept the offer before you tap 'Use it now'.

Not on O2?

There's a sneaky way of getting Priority offers even if you're not an O2 customer. It might be too late for you to get this deal, but you can get prepared for the next O2 Priority freebie. See our O2 Priority for EVERYONE! guide to find out how.

MSE Rhiannon says:

Since Boots are no longer offering its £1 meal deal, I trekked to the nearest WHSmith to take a look at its offering. Whilst previously I might not have thought about WHSmith as a decent place to get a meal deal, from June 2016 they've updated and expanded their options - including vegan and gluten-free items - so well worth a look if your Monday's bleak without a £1 lunch.

Section 75

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
