The TV licence fee will be frozen for the next six years, the Chancellor has confirmed.

It means the £145.50 annual cost for a colour television and £49 for a black and white licence will be fixed for the next few years (see the TV licence guide).

As part of the deal, the BBC, paid for by the licence fee, will have to fund its World Service sector and other parts of its business to save the taxpayer £20 million.
