On a first date? Yes, you CAN use a 2for1 voucher

Being frugal on a first date is officially the "new sexy", after a poll of more than 5,000 MoneySavingExpert users found eight out of ten think it's acceptable to use a 2for1 voucher to pay for dinner.
According to users who responded to the poll, if you use a discount voucher your date's more likely to see you as a keeper than run, while 84% agree it's not a problem.

Is 'Robert' a keeper?
Setting the candlelit scene, our poll asked: "Imagine Robert asks Cora [or Tom] on a dinner date saying he’ll pay. When the bill comes he pulls out a 2for1 voucher – what advice would you give Cora [or Tom]?"
Some 33% of women and 36% of men agreed this would make Robert a keeper, and a further 51% of women and 49% of men said "it's not an issue".
The results have changed significantly since we first ran this poll in 2009. Then, 27% said that Robert was "tight" and Cora should run a mile – a view shared by just 15% of men and 16% of women now.

'Being canny with money is the new sexy'
Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, says: "I am of course delighted that being canny with money is the new sexy.
"Gradually, as a nation, people are starting to realise that paying more doesn’t automatically mean getting better quality. 2for1 restaurant vouchers have been around a while, and not just for cheap chains – even some Michelin-starred restaurants have offered them.
"Surely it’s better to go somewhere nice that you can afford, rather than shell out a large wad just for the sake of being seen to.
"Sadly though, even now some believe you should try and buy someone’s affection – well, there’s a name for people who want others to shell out cash for their love!"
What our users say
Lots of users contacted us via social media to comment on the poll, with many voicing support for Robert's thrifty romancing.
Theshrewdlife says: "100% YES! I don't want to date a guy who buys champagne on beer money, I need someone shrewd – it definitely shows effort!" Kath says: "My husband literally blew my mind away with his haggling and deal hunting from our first date onwards. I was so impressed. He seemed so knowledgeable. Depends what you are both looking for." However, others were sceptical of Robert’s first-date voucher – one user, Carol, said it would only be OK if he "didn’t want a second date".
