100s of Starbucks stores now selling half-price food an hour before closing
Starbucks customers can now get 50% off muffins, sandwiches and other snacks at many of the chain's coffee shops an hour before closing time.
More than 350 of Starbucks' 800-odd UK stores are offering food at half-price which would otherwise be thrown out – and all the money raised by selling these items will be donated to Action Against Hunger, a charity that supports malnourished children.
Reduced items included in the scheme, which started on 30 August, are marked with '50% off food, 100% to charity'.
Chains which serve fresh food in the daytime often offer discounts in the evening in a bid to clear their shelves – see other examples in our London MoneySaving guide. And we're compiling a full list – if you've found a food or coffee shop which offers a similar discount before closing, let us know at news@moneysavingexpert.com.
Where can I find half-price Starbucks food and what can I get?
At the moment, the offer is only running in company-owned Starbucks stores, of which there are about 350 in the UK, and not the chain's franchise stores. A full list of stores participating in the deal can be found here.
Exactly which items are included in the deal varies between coffee shops, but Starbucks says any food which is due to go out of date and would otherwise be thrown out that night will be half-price. Drinks are NOT included.
Starbucks coffee shops have different closing times, so the exact time the promotion starts depends on your local branch – but in each case it should be an hour before closing.
