Tesco to close its email service - if you still use it act now

The Tesco.net email address service will be closed down on 27 June - if you've got one of these accounts you'll need to move to an alternative provider.

From 27 June you'll no longer be able to log into your account, send messages or view your emails - so you must forward any existing emails you want to keep to your new email address before then.

Tesco will, however, automatically forward any new emails you receive to your new address until 10 October if you opt in to its forwarding service.

Why is Tesco.net being closed down?

The Tesco.net email addresses were given out to customers when they got their very first Tesco Broadband and Homephone package.

Tesco Broadband and Homephone was closed back in 2015 and customers were switched to TalkTalk, but Tesco kept the email service open to give customers time to create a new email account.

It says most customers have now done this, which is why it's closing the service.

I still use my Tesco.net account - what should I do?

Firstly, you need to set up a new email address – you can do this via your current broadband provider or use a free webmail account, such as Gmail or Outlook.

Secondly, if you use your Tesco.net email address as a username to log in to websites, or are subscribed to a site's mailing list with the address, you need to change your email address on these sites.

For example, there are currently around 20,000 email addresses signed up to our MoneySavingExpert's Money Tips email using a Tesco.net account - you can sign-up again with a new email address.

Finally, if you've got important emails in your account that you want to keep forward them to your new account by 27 June.

Opt in to Tesco's forwarding service

You can opt into Tesco's forwarding service, which will run until 10 October, to ensure you receive any emails which are sent to your Tesco email address.

To do this, open your Tesco.net email account, and click on the 'Preferences' tab, then open the 'Mail' tab and scroll down to the 'Receiving Messages' section.

In the box under 'Forward a copy to (for multiple addresses, separate with a comma)', add your complete new email address you'd like the messages forwarded too. Finally click 'Save.'
