Sainsbury's launches 'Nectar Prices' promo giving discounts on over 250 items
Sainsbury's has launched a 'Nectar Prices' promotion, giving discounts of between 5% and 50% on 266 items to Nectar card-holders until early March. While the deals are often beatable, if you're buying with a Nectar card at Sainsbury's anyway, they're a no-brainer.
The reduced prices are available from today until Tuesday 3 March – if you're ordering online, the delivery date will need to be before then.
Sainsbury's says they'll be available in all stores and online for anyone with a Nectar card, though the items will be subject to availability and the promotion excludes shopping apps Mobile SmartShop and ChopChop.
The offer is similar to Tesco's 'Clubcard Prices' scheme, which was the first time a major UK supermarket had offered reduced prices to all its loyalty scheme members when it was introduced last year.
See our Loyalty Points Boosting guide for more tips on making the most of loyalty schemes, and see our Supermarket Shopping Tips.
How to get Nectar Prices
Nectar Prices will be applied automatically when you swipe your Nectar card or app at the checkout when shopping in store, or when you shop online using an account that's connected to a Nectar card.
The offer can't be applied retrospectively, so make sure you scan your Nectar card or app at the time.
Items that have Nectar discounts will be marked, and you can see a full list of discounted items on the Sainsbury's website.
It's worth noting that you won't be able to get the discounts on beer, wine or spirits if you're in Scotland, and that prices in Sainsbury's Local stores may differ from the prices in larger stores.
Are the deals any good? (Spoiler – they're often beatable)
In total 266 items are reduced, with discounts of between 5% and 50%. There's a wide range of items included, such as bread, ice cream, cleaning products and vodka.
The items are a mixture of own-brand and branded items. On branded items, Nectar Prices could often be matched or beaten at other supermarkets. We did a spot check of 10 branded items included in the scheme and found that in seven cases the Nectar Prices cost was equal to the best offer available at other supermarkets. In two cases the Nectar Prices cost could be beaten, and on one occasion it was the cheapest outright.
Generally you should see the scheme as a nice bonus if you'd be shopping at Sainsbury's anyway, rather than a reason to switch where you shop.
Prices can also change quickly, so you'll need to check for yourself how deals stack up – see our Supermarket Shopping guide for ways to compare the cost of your trolley.
