Tesco Clubcard customers will no longer be able to exchange Clubcard points for Avios from next January.

Avios is a rewards scheme run by the International Airlines Group and allows customers to get money off flights with British Airways, as well as other travel-related perks – there are full details in our 31 tricks to boost and max Avios guide.

At the moment, you can convert £2.50 worth of Clubcard vouchers into 600 Avios, meaning that when £37.50 of Tesco vouchers are converted into Avios, they're enough for roughly an economy return to Prague or Milan (though you still pay £35 in taxes and charges).

But the partnership between Avios and Clubcard will be ending on 18 January 2021. Tesco says there aren't any other changes to the rest of the Clubcard scheme.

Can I still convert Clubcard points to Avios?

You'll be able to convert Clubcard points into Avios until 18 January 2021.

But if you automatically convert your points, only Clubcard points collected on or before Thursday 22 October will be automatically converted to Avios (as this is the cut-off date to earn points before your November statement).

Any Clubcard points you earn from Friday 23 October onwards can still be manually converted to Avios via the Clubcard website, until the 18 January deadline.

If you want to stop having your Clubcard points automatically converted to Avios before 22 October, you can opt out of automatic conversion through your Clubcard account.

If you get your vouchers posted to you, rather than requesting when you want them via the 'Faster Vouchers' scheme, remember the last mail-out before the deadline will be the November mail-out. Points earned after 22 October will not appear in the November mail-out, they'll appear in your February mail-out – when the partnership will already have ended. You'll need to convert them online before 18 January if you want to convert them into Avios.

What will happen to Avios I've already collected?

All Avios collected with Clubcard will remain in your British Airways Executive Club account, valid for at least three years.

However, any British Airways Executive Club account that isn't used for over three years will lapse, and any remaining Avios will be deducted.
