AXA scraps own-brand travel insurance policies for new customers - but existing holders remain covered until their deal expires
AXA Insurance UK will no longer sell own-brand overseas and UK travel insurance policies to new customers, the firm has announced. However, existing policyholders remain covered for the duration of their policy.
The insurer says customers who've already purchased annual and single-trip policies won't be affected and cover will continue as planned until expiry. This applies regardless of whether you took out your policy directly via AXA or through a comparison site or third party.
Once your cover ends you'll no longer be able to renew it with AXA. AXA says it will contact all affected customers and will advise them to visit the British Insurance Brokers’ Association website where a broker can help them find travel insurance elsewhere.
Of course, you don't need to wait for AXA to get in touch - you can use our Travel Insurance guide for help getting the best deal now. We also have specialised information on Backpacker Insurance, Over-65s’ Travel Insurance and more. MoneySavingExpert.com had featured AXA's overseas travel policies in our best buys in the past but they're not currently among our top picks.
AXA will, however, continue to underwrite policies provided by third parties
AXA says the decision to stop selling its own-branded travel insurance is because it wants to "simplify its travel offering". However, it will continue to underwrite policies provided by third party partners. These brands are as follows:
AA
ABTA
Cedar Tree
Coverwise
Cover4You
Halifax Packaged Account
Outbacker
TUI
