If you need to contact HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for help with your tax return, you'll soon only be able to do through its webchat in most cases. That's because, starting from next month, HMRC will be closing its self-assessment telephone helpline for half the year – and will only open it for "priority" calls the rest of the time.

Tens of thousands of young people with special educational needs and disabilities remain locked out of their savings held in Child Trust Funds – and the Government must do more to help them, a cross-party group of MPs have said. Unbelievably, a debt collection firm has been sending emails that appear to be signed by the late pop star Michael Jackson asking for repayments owed to energy firms that have gone bust. In some cases, people don't owe the debt, in others they do – unfortunately it's not always 'black and white'.

MoneySavingExpert.com now has 1,080,000 car finance complaint letters submitted since 6 February 2024 when its founder and executive chair Martin Lewis launched its free car finance reclaim tool. That equates to a staggering 30,000 per day. A back-of-the-envelope calculation means this could be at least £480,000,000 back for those consumers, or more, as over 25% of complaints are from people with multiple agreements.

The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has today (Wednesday 6 March) revealed plans to address the "unfairness" in the current Child Benefit system. This follows extensive campaigning on the issue by MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) and its founder Martin Lewis. Currently, some families get less (or no) support as a result of overcomplicated tax rules.
