Energy bills are rising for many this month despite the postponement of a 20% planned price increase in April. British Gas has cut gas prices for over a million of its prepay meter users as of Saturday 1 April, bringing them in line with the rates paid by those on direct debit. The change means these customers will save an average of £59 each on their gas costs over the next year. Here's what you need to know.

The price cap on how much energy suppliers can charge households will now change every three months from October, instead of every six months, regulator Ofgem has confirmed. Due to the current high wholesale energy costs, it means we're likely to see price rises TWICE this winter.

Former customers of failed supplier Green Network Energy (GNE) will be moved onto EDF’s pricey standard variable tariff (SVT) from October, with the cheap tariffs they were initially switched to set to end. If you were on one of these deals, switch now or you could end up overpaying.

Martin Lewis explains how the new £200 energy bill loan really works
Martin Lewis explains how a new £200 energy bill loan offered by the Government really works in his latest video. The initiative was announced this week in a bid to help households with the rising cost of living, following confirmation that typical energy bills will rise by £693 a year from 1 April. But there's lots of confusion about the loan, which MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin debunks below.
