Northern Ireland's largest energy supplier Power NI is to hike electricity prices by 5.6%, meaning the typical bill for those on its standard tariff will jump by £27/year.

More than 200,000 Northern Ireland households will see their gas bills jump in the next month, with supplier Firmus Energy today announcing a price hike and SSE Airtricity having done so last week.

Just over 1,000 homes in Northern Ireland which were supplied electricity by small provider Open Electric have been transferred to Power NI after the regulator revoked its licence. If you were an Open Electric customer, you won't lose your electricity supply, but it's still unclear if you'll get your money back if you were in credit.

Home buyers in Scotland will pay new tax rates when buying a property from today, which will see 50% of buyers pay nothing at all, according to the Scottish Government.
