If you click a link with an * to go through to a provider, we may get paid. This usually only happens if you get a product from it. This is what funds our team of journalists, and keeps us free to use. Yet there are two crucial things you need to know about this.
- This never impacts our editorial recommendations – if it's in, it's in there because we independently rate it best.
- You'll always get as good a deal (or better) than if you went direct.

Boots Advantage Card tips
Boost your points, nab baby freebies & more
Boots shoppers can sign up for a free Advantage Card to earn loyalty points at the health and beauty retailer. We've lots of tips and tricks to help you boost your stash. Remember the golden rule – choose where to shop on price, NOT because you get points – but always get points if you're spending there anyway.
What do you think of this guide? Please give us feedback, suggest improvements and share your tips in the Boots Advantage Card tips forum thread.
For more ways to boost loyalty points, see Reclaim & boost Clubcard vouchers and Boost Nectar points.
How does the Boots Advantage Card scheme work?
Use the Boots Advantage Card* in store and online and you currently earn four points per £1 (from early May, this will change to three points per £1 spent. See our MSE News story Boots to cut Advantage points earned on spending for full details).
You earn points on most things, though infant milk, prescriptions, stamps, gift vouchers and mobile phone top-ups are notable exceptions.
Once you've collected the points, they're worth 1p each and can be redeemed for money off most things in store – don't forget about them, as your points will be wiped if you don't use the card for a year.

Eight ways to boost your Advantage Card savings
There are plenty of ways to boost your stash of points if you know where to look. Here are our top tips and tricks.
-
Download the Boots app and go wallet free
Advantage Card members can now download the Boots app to scan their card in store – so you'll never forget it again. The app's available for Android and iOS.
Once you've downloaded the app, link your Advantage Card to it by adding your card number, date of birth and postcode. Then simply select 'Advantage Card' in the app, and it will show a barcode for you to scan in store.
-
Check the app regularly for bonus points & freebies
The app's also handy for boosting your points stash as you can load personalised offers to your card. In the past we've seen examples such as free handwash, 100 bonus points when you buy two shampoo products, and £1.50 off when you spend £15+ in a single transaction.
It's well worth checking it regularly for new offers, though of course, as the offers are personalised, not everyone will receive the same ones.
-
Delay big purchases for 'points events'
Boots sometimes has points events on particular days or over a weekend, where if you spend a set amount (usually £50 or £60) online or in store, you get 1,000 extra points (worth £10). When one hits it's worth collecting together everything you were planning to buy in Boots to grab the bonus.
Or if you're doing a really big shop, split what you're buying (for example into £50 or £60 spends), as there's usually no limit on how many extra points bonuses you can get. Boots usually advertises these events on its website/app and emails Advantage cardholders about them.
-
Student? Get 10% off every time you shop
If you're a student, you can get a 10% discount at Boots every time you use your Advantage Card. To activate the discount, you'll need to visit a Boots store, show your student ID at the checkout and ask the cashier to link it to your Advantage Card.
The discount should then work automatically every time you use your card in a store or online, but Boots says you may occasionally be asked to show your ID again. The discount needs to be reactivated every year at the start of September.
While the standard discount is 10%, occasionally this is boosted for a limited period of time. Some products are excluded, such as NHS prescriptions, infant formula, Dyson products, mobile phone top-up cards, gift cards, and postage stamps. See the Boots website for the full list.
It's worth noting Superdrug also offers a 10% student discount, so always compare prices and shop around where possible. See our Student MoneySaving tips for lots more ways to save.

Get 500 bonus points for recycling empty toiletry & cosmetic containers
If you recycle five empty toiletry or cosmetic containers at a participating Boots store, you'll get a voucher for 500 bonus Advantage Card points (worth £5) when you next spend £10 at Boots.
You can use the scheme to recycle containers which can't be recycled through your household waste, such as mascaras, lipsticks or make-up palettes. Boots says it won't offer the reward for items which can be recycled at home, such as shampoo and shower gel bottles.
How to recycle at Boots
It's a little fiddly and takes some planning, as you need to have your empty containers approved online before you can recycle them. What's more, the reward voucher is only valid for three days. It's worth making a list of items you need to buy in advance, so you can recycle your containers and use your voucher on the same trip.
Here's what you need to do to get the bonus points:
- Register with the Scan2Recycle website.
- Take photos of the empty containers and submit them online for approval.
- Visit your local Boots store and find the recycling box (it should be near the No7 counter, but it may be elsewhere in the store).
- Scan the QR code on the box, and select which items you're depositing.
- Your voucher will then appear in your Scan2Recycle account, in the 'Rewards' section. Simply scan it at the checkout when making a purchase of £10 or more.
-
Check Advantage Card emails to maximise your points
Boots sends out a weekly email to Advantage cardholders with deals to earn extra points and coupons which can help you maximise existing points. For example, it might offer a bonus 500 points for buying a particular product.
If you have the app, you can also choose to receive notifications on your phone about new offers.
-
Join the Boots Parenting Club for extra points & freebies, for example FREE Aveeno baby shampoo
The Boots Parenting Club is free to join, and gives you an extra eight points for every £1 spent on baby products. You'll also get access to extra offers, such as 25% off when you spend £25+ on Mothercare clothing.
What's more, the Parenting Club is currently offering a free Aveeno baby shampoo when you sign up. When we tried it, we were also offered free breast pads and a free Mam bottle with a soother via the app.

Over 60? Earn extra points on selected items
Join the More Treats for Over 60s club, and you'll get eight points per £1 spent in store on Boots-branded items, as well as a few other selected brands such as Joules, Liz Earle and Champneys.
Boots says you'll also receive exclusive offers throughout the year. Currently you can collect a bonus 200 Advantage Card points if you have a free hearing test with Boots Hearingcare.
