The following is the text of Martins Money Tips Email sent on 3 November 2004

Hiya. There was so much MoneySaving this week, some had to ditched.  Please forward this to friends and family as it's a great intro to the weekly email.

DROP MOBILE CONTRACT COSTS BY UP TO £600/YEAR (NEW ARTICLE) Mobile networks have special hidden tariffs, but with a little chutzpah you can access them.  This is a detailed article version of my old Chat Tip.  It's especially powerful for Orange contact customers. More texts, more minutes, upgraded phone, less cost

HOW TO GET A FREE SMOKE ALARM.  Chat tip: It could save your life!

5.6% CHEAPEST EVER PERSONAL LOAN (NEW ARTICLE) I've fully rewritten the ‘cheapest personal loan' article.  It now includes cheapest flexible loans and loans for those with poorer credit scores.  New Article: Cheapest Personal Loans.  Plus Cahoot has launched a 4 month 0% intro rate on its flexible loan.  Frankly this is pants!  For short term borrowing read ‘short term loans completely interest free'.

THE REAL GAMES GURUS.   Two top new computer game Chat Tip spots. Brand new Football Manager 2005 at £17.99 including delivery (RRP £35), plus Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas under £30.  Can you beat them?

Fully Updated:  Credit Card Articles Balance Transfers, Purchases or Cashback

FREE ‘SELL YOUR HOME' WEBSITE LISTING.  This website's MD is a MoneySavingExpert user and as a thank you has offered other users a free listing (normally £89) if done in the next two weeks.  A listing gets you on Assertahomes and Fish4homes.  And as it's free, if it doesn't work, it doesn't hurt.  Chat tip: Free sales listing

THE GREAT ‘CHEAPEST FREEVIEW BOX HUNT'.  Freeview allows digital TV for a one off fee just by buying the box.  What's the cheapest you've spotted? £40 is the benchmark. Add your spots or read others' in The Great ‘Cheapest Freeview Box' Hunt.  Sele cted Other Great Hunts:Cheapest Laptop Hunt', 'Virtually Free Stocking Fillers Hunt', ‘Cheap Printer Cartridges Hunt'

Reminder:  Save zillions (technical term) on cleaning products vinegar on that?

Reminder:  Fixed vs Discount mortgage rate article How to choose?

Reminder:  Make free cash from credit cards Revenge article

PANTS! POWERGEN PRICE RISE.  It's increasing gas and electricity prices by roughly 9% at the end of November.  This was unexpected.  In my earlier ‘time to switch' evaluation note I discounted this happening as it'd upped prices twice this year already.  Yet as noted then, this  is only ever a best guess.  There are no guarantees.  Eve n with hindsight, the ‘time to switch' was and is right as it's the longest ‘no price rises' run for ages. Switch via the winning comparison service Energyhelpline/Cashback*, or better read ‘Cheapest Energy Provider plus cashback'.

GET THE MACS CARD! Would you? For last week's BBC1 “Should I worry about…. Spending?” I designed a new dummy credit card. It looks good, but in reality it's hell. Would you have signed up? Card specs.  Discuss it

YOU SHOULDN'T LAUGH!  But watch this Chat Forum link to the end and it's tough not to.

Only 9,715 places to go!!  Huge thanks to all site users.  Staggeringly this week the site joined the world's top 10,000 websites. I'm blown away. I've updated the About Us section of the site and included a graph of the site's progress.   Please do keep recommending the site and especially the e-mail to others.  Every new MoneySaver makes the UK a little less ‘rip off Britain' (and NI).

I hope you save some money

Martin
