Have you checked you've not overpaid tax?
The tax year ended on 5 April, and this means if you had a change of circumstance over the past year, it's worth checking if you've overpaid tax. Typical reasons for that would be - taking a work break, switching jobs, or reaching the age of 65. More info/discuss

New Top 0% for 14 months card. Must read if you pay interest on credit cards. Updated Article

Balance transferring means shifting debts to a new card with a cheaper rate, saving £100s a year.  There are two new market leaders. If you can clear most/all the debt within a year the Tesco card* is 0% for 12 months, with a fee of 2% of the amount shifted. Alternatively moneysupermarket is offering this version of Barclaycard Platinum* which is 0% for 14 months, but with a higher 2.9% fee. Yet only go for these if you're prepared to shift the debt again when the 0% ends; for the alternatives, how tos, pros & cons read the Updated Article: Best Balance Transfers (mini-mutterings) Related Articles: Best Lend For Spend, Best Cashback Cards

Wat'er Saving! Are you a light sewerage user? Updated Article
As well as the normal 'should you get a meter', now I've added a big chunk of sewerage to the article! Sewerage processing costs make up approximately half the bill, yet if you use a substantial amount of water from an outside tap, or have a pool or pond, it probably doesn't end up as sewerage. So you can ask the water company to reduce the bill. Updated Article: Water Bills (mini-mutterings) Related Articles: Cheapest Gas & Elec, Cheapest Home Phone

Best Buy Cash ISA 6.5% Barclays Updated: Processing is slow but you won't lose interest
A cash ISA is effectively a tax-free savings account you can put up to £3,000 a year in, and everyone who has savings should consider it.  The current top pick is the Barclays Taxbeater cash ISA, yet Barclays admits it's been swamped and has some big delays processing applications.  Importantly though it promises it will pay interest backdated to when the application form was handed in the branch, plus anyone who handed in forms for the 2006-7 tax year will still get it for then.  Overall this means nothing lost, but if it worries you, the next top pick is the Egg Cash ISA* at 6.05%. Bank Charges: Don't ask. Do write. Do get! Reclaim £1000s
There's increasing feedback that the banks are operating a "only payout if someone insists" policy to bank charges reclaiming. So let me reiterate, follow the step-by-step guide, send the template letters rather than just calling up, and stick to the timetable you set; ignoring their "why not go to the Ombudsman' letters - and all indications are you'll get all your money back. Act quick. Fixed rates are rising rapidly - time to fix your mortgage?
Cheap fixed-rate availability is fading fast, and the impending likely base rate rise will push even the best up around 5.5%! With fixed rates, companies sell a certain amount, then reassess the rate depending on long term interest rate predictions. A few big lenders haven't sold out their old, cheaper deals yet so if you're free to switch and are looking for stability, do it quick. MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. This time it's real - Should Siber let his brother Mark drive his car?

Normally the dilemmas are hypothetical, but this time one MoneySaver wants his real dilemma solved. Siber is 24 and lives with his younger brother, he's spent years saving for a new car and is a careful driver. His boy-racer brother wants to borrow it while his old banger is repaired, but any even minor prang accident would hurt Siber's no claims and cost him for years to come. Should Siber let Mark drive his car? Previous MMDs: Should Scott take Charlene's ad? and Should Carol take Sharon on?

This week's poll: Do sweat shops make good cheap product? You love shopping in your favourite cut-price clothing retailer or supermarket, but a verified report comes out that the reason it's so cheap is because it's paying 10 to 14 year olds only £1 a day in the developing world to make the goods. Last week's vote result: Over half would use neighbours' wireless.
A huge 6,500 voted and 54% said they'd use their neighbours' wireless broadband without telling them. Well watch out, do it and you're liable for prosecution as this BBC News story shows. See poll results

Warning about warnings! It's rare I laugh out loud when I read something, but a discussion in the forum just made me. It's about silly warnings such as the warning on a box of eggs that it "may contain eggs", or my favourite, the warning on a chainsaw that "chainsaw accidents are rarely trivial!" Read them/ add yours

I hope you save some money
